Update: And Sony says…
Update: “Anonymous Asshole” points out (in the comments)… When selecting your timezone, the globe is now displayed and moves accordingly. That’s new, I think… Can’t say I change my timezone all that often to have noticed any earlier.
Sony has released PS3 firmware version 2.17. You may grab that now via System Update, or wait a bit; we’ll have a copy posted for download shortly. I’ve updated my console, and as far as I can tell, there are no obvious or visible changes. Lets wait to hear the official word from Sony.
Stay tuned.

Comments (130)Say what, two updates in one day?! Here is something else worth mentioning… Posted last Wednesday at TG Daily –
Foster City (CA) - Playstation 3 users can expect a “pretty big change in the Playstation Network in the early part of April,” according to Sony Computer Entertainment America’s John Hight.
The “pretty big change” comes in the form of a major interface overhaul which is said to be based largely on customer feedback, according to Hight in an interview with Gamasutra.
Well that’s nice, so where’s Home?

Comments (33)Finally something worth mentioning…
CJPC, from ps3news.com *cringes*, has apparently succeeded with launching [copied] PS3 games off the HD and DVD/BD-ROM drives. But wait! Before your pants tighten up — do know this [unreleased] method only works on PS3 DEVELOPMENT consoles — not RETAIL units, and neither is this an ISO loader.
As mentioned, no public release yet; even then, if there was, it’s pretty much rendered useless from an average Joe’s perspective. C’mon, how many readers out there own a DEV. unit? Now, that isn’t to say this doesn’t hold potential — it could possibly pave the road for opening up the retail PS3 console. But who knows… Till then, the wait continues…
Comments (46)Update: The TIFF exploit has been tagged useless — it won’t lead anywhere.
Update: The video has been reposted; again, keep in mind — this is not from Team ICE. See my comments concerning the video below.
Update: Just to clarify some things, Team ICE didn’t release the video; sorry if I implied that. Whether or not the video was legit is a different story — like I said, it was quite convincing. We’ll find out in the coming days no doubt. For now, have fun playing with the Team ICE tools.
Update: Unfortunately the video no longer works. Earlier viewers witnessed a very convincing “Hello World” screen called from the PS3’s XMB. I’m sure more updates are ahead…
Baaaaam, peanut butter and jaaaaam! Team ICE has released their ELF 2 SELF converter tool for Windows; alongside documentation, examples, and other related goodies in connection with the Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm (R:FOM/MS) exploits.
Say it ain’t so…
My apologies for my earlier skepticism (see here). I’m thrilled to be proven otherwise. Kudos team.

Comments (160)Ah, ha! Potentially some good news concerning Sony’s PS3 console and evading their nasty security measures; I say potentially because it stems from those at ps3news… *Nods*
CJPC is reporting the successful decryption of a PS3 ELF file off an original retail game disc. This method removes both the disc and file layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN.
In addition, they also claim to have successfully downgraded a PlayStation 3 console without need for a flash dump backup, “…to downgrade your PS3 you first need a copy of the original firmware (made with Infectus). However our method does not need any flash backup, as it uses the PS3’s updates to downgrade for us.”
Although it’s certainly possible, no release has been made… Could this be it — the PS3 finally hacked? Will Sony survive another round? Who knows… Tune in again — anytime, same PS3 channel. Yeah, you know what’s up.

Comments (39)This COD4 glitch is rather interesting… It doesn’t really serve any purpose other than eliciting a, “how’d ya do that?” from those online. Watch the video for a better understanding of what exactly this glitch entails. Check out the details here.
Comments (53)Not sure if anyone else missed this or if I’m the only one… Nonetheless, it’s mighty cool and deserves a spot here on PS3 Hacks.
Lili-Chan Software has released (in December) an updated version of their PS3 Theme Builder with support for added sound effects. Version 2.1 is the latest and no doubt the best tool for creating/managing your PS3 themes.

Comments (13)My friend Alessandro brought this link (see source) to my attention late last night some time. I refrained from posting because, well, to be honest, I’m skeptic. There’s only video proof and we all know what Hollywood is capable of. Even then, the video doesn’t actually prove much. And not to mention similar hoaxes surrounding the community which never materialized into anything. It goes on and on… I’ve decided to post now after a number of people emailed in the same news. So, you decide. Here’s the low-down so far…
Team ICE and StreetskaterFU claim to have discovered an exploit allowing the execution of unsigned code on the latest 2.10 firmware. They’ve already got an application converting ELF binaries to SELF — no release for that yet. The SELF code apparently runs but does not initialize video output. Development continues and once the video initialization issue is corrected, “Hello World” will be concrete proof.
Again, take this news with a grain of salt. Watch the video, decide for yourself, and leave your opinion below. Keep those fingers crossed!

Comments (126)Do this, now:
The result: an awesome PS3 experience. At least that’s the plan. The software is beta so you may encounter strange behaviour or non-working functions. I’ll report back later with an update.
Megabox acts as a full-fledged media server with plenty of extra goodies. Software, including Firefox, emulators, P2P, VoIP, games, etc… Launch PS3 games (blu-rays, not ISOs) directly from the menu. Megabox is also compatible with a variety of TV USB devices. Radio/TV Internet streaming is supported, recording shows, etc… You name it. It’s quite impressive. Unfortunately HDMI out is not [yet] functional.
