On The Way! Mitsubishi 73" DLP - 73837 Diamond Series HDTV

I was going to buy the Mitsubishi WD73C9 73" C9 Series DLP Rear Projection HDTV for $1699.99 from circuit city (with a free stand, free shipping), first, then changed my mind.  I figured, I would then buy the next model up, the WD73737 for 2299.99, because it had the additional features.  They had an out of  box one for 1999.99, and thought, better model, still free shipping.  SO, I kept looking, and went to best buy last week, they had WD73837, the DIAMOND series for 2499.99, so, I figured that LOCALLY, I pay 200.00 more than the 737 version, but also get the three years no fiance charges.   Talked it over with the wife, did the math on the 2299.99 at 15% -vs- the better one at best buy, the 73837 for 2499.99 at 0% for three years; we decided to go to Best Buy.

Ok, so we arrive at best buy, and guess what?  The it went from 2499.99 to, and get this 1799.99!!  Hell yeah!  SO, there we go man, the top of the line DLP Projection, for $600.00 less!   I had to get a warranty though...

The 737 Series Specs:
Energy Star 3.0 Qualified
3D ready
Smooth 120™
1080p DLP® Display
Plush1080p® 5G Improved 12-bit Processing
PerfectColor™
Improved DeepField™ Imager
Improved Video Noise Reduction
UltraThin™ Frame
Exclusive 6-Color Processor™
Side Component Input
2 Rear Component Inputs
New Jade Activity Based User Interface

873 has all above, and Adds the following:
PerfectTint™

Video Modes:
Brilliant/Bright/Natural/Game/ISF Day/ISF Night
Dark Detailer™
NetCommand
4 HDMI 1.3a™ (3-rear, one side)
Deep Color™ (36 bit) & x.v.Color™
USB Media Input (Pics and MP3 only)
RS-232C Interface (can control the unit with a PC)
AMX Device Discovery

Waited, and got a better deal!!  Will be happy for another five years...

Re: On The Way! Mitsubishi 73" DLP - 73837 Diamond Series HDTV

If the 82" was on sale, I probably would have got that, but; the 73" and 82" use the same light engine, and DLP processor, only the optics are adjusted to display the larger picture on the 82", thus bigger pixels than on the 73".   It might be the same for the 60", 65" too, not sure.   WE have theaters that use DLP projectors now, and you can see the pixels on the screen, and the ones that are not working, show as little BLACK squares.

The 82" was 2899.99, a little too steep right now, for something hat uses the same light engine as the 73", and possibly 60" & 65" as well.   I still have my 60" LCD projection, with 2.5 years of warranty left on it, before renewing.  IF this thing fails for another thermal-fuse, I am going to have it cashed out so I get the 3400.00 back, or another huge TV and accessories.  I have had a HDTV cashed out once already, which is how I got the 60" LCD like Siptang had.   I would have liked to have gotten Siptang's broken TV, it is JUST like mine.  I would have hid mine up in the attic, and had them come fix his, as mine, for free under warranty.

My LCD had the Light engine replaced last year, so it's basically a brand new TV.  I am thinking of selling it for like $1200.00 with warranty, and they are transferable.  My niece is buying my Poleriod 32" LCD (8ms) Flat panel HDTV for 300.00, I paid 600.00 and rarely use it.

So, the 73" will be delivered tomorrow (weather permits), has one more HDMI input than my LCD one, so I will be totally ridding myself of all RCA type connections, to all HDMI and fiber optic. Between the two TVs I sell, I should get almost 3/4 of the value, and pay it off almost immediately, AFTER using some of it for a 50" HDTV. I am putting the 60" up there tomorrow, but that's a little big. I have room, the stand will hold it, it's just a little big, but I like the cable card slot (occupied), and the 32" doesn't get all the channels; thie 60" does with the cable card.

I may be selling an Xbox360, and a PSP 3001 (FW6.20) too.  I will be getting rid of ALL the extra crap I am not using anymore.  Yes, I will have PICs when I am all done with it...  I am keeping the modded360, and I have two HDMI units, and only use ONE of those, and one will be moved tot he 60" to the bedroom, and will have an orphaned360.  Dunno, got to figure it all out...  I just paid 900.00 on my best buy card thid year to pay off promotions, have 66.00 of one, and 239 of another yet, those are 18 months though, got plenty time.

The PSP will have four 2GB cards, one 4GB, and one 16GB, loaded with movies, converted with Viedo9- they look great.  It only had a few games, they are NCA 09, and some brain game.  My kid put a bunch of MP3s on that PSP too, nothing I like, but are leaving it...  I got 1.5TB of movies and TV series...  They are great to watch in the car with the PSP (wife likes that part).

That is an awesome TV PS. Pictures for sure when you get some, but I'm wondering with an awesome TV like that just how awesome is your surround sound? Watching movies at your place must be an awesome experience.

I have a Sony DD 7.1 surround system, 3 HDMI inputs 3 optical, three Component, plus the output for each.   I got the Front L/C/R, then Center L/R, and Rear L/R and the subwoofer, but, my Dynalab FL and FR are much better for the bass.   HDMI output has Receiver only, pass-through, or Receiver and pass-through.  I got that on sale for 299.99 about four years ago, at Best Buy, was a 599.99 unit.

Jawn; I got a 73" because; I can...  It was almost the 82", we love to watch movies!  What's that phrase?  "It's good to be da King." - History of the world, Part I.

Even if that were true, ownership does not take place till it is in my home. IF they destroyed it before delivery, THEIR insurance gets me another one.

so true thats why you ALWAYS inspect your packages before receiving them. i worked at UPS for a year out of high school and i know TV's or anything of the sort are not treated with care.

Re: On The Way! Mitsubishi 73" DLP - 73837 Diamond Series HDTV

It came today, and what an improvement over past DLP models.  The 120Hz is great!

I have what appears to be two burned out pixels, but I looked, there is a spec of dirt INSIDE the unit, you can see it when it's off.  When on, it's a black smudge about 2 pixels in size.  Going to have to make a service call already.

Pics when I get them, and will show pics of the 60" in the bedroom now, looks kind of dumb.  Too high, and just out of place..

As I said, maybe five times now; Flat Panels are one big LCD panel.  They have a pixel burn out policy that does not conform to my viewing pleasure.  The MFR warranty allows for a maximum of THREE pixles to burn out, or become lazy before they repair it on the fourth one.  However, if the two  or three pixels are in the same ZONE, then they replace it

With projection, like my 60" LCD; there are three .98" LCD panels that are projected to 60"  Not only are the smaller panels naturally faster than the huge flat panels, they replace a panel even if ONE pixel burns out.  Now, with this 60" LCD I have, has NEVER had a pixel gone bad.  Flat panels? I am on my THIRD 32" flat panel, this one a Poleriod, and it has one lazy pixel, just won't turn black.   The two others before that, one had a bright green pixel, and the other had two black ones that stayed that way.

The DLP is the same, a small, approximately 1" area projected to 73".  This 73" DLP is lighter, and not as deep as my 60" LCD.  With projection, they will replace the chip if anything goes wrong, or the Light engine.  I have had the light engine in my LCD replaced, that was about a year ago, so I basically have a new 60" LCD as of about a year ago.

Flat panels are harder to get to show motion faster, which is why a LCD of the same size as mine, with 120Hz, 3D ready, will cost almost a $1000.00 more, because of the pannel, and not am 980.00 light engine.   The first 32" flat panel I had?  When you played a video game, and spun around, you completely lost view of the picture it blurred so badly.  The second one was a little better, and this 8ms display I have is better, but still not as good as the 60".  There is no motion blur with the 60" LCD, because of the smaller, faster panels.

As long as they produce Projection TVs, that is what I will buy. I will not tolerate their pixel policies on the larger flat panel displays.   I am already mad at the dirt particle that is blacking out two pixels now. I know it is not a bad chip, I can see the dirt particle when I turn the unit off, and it's actually larger, about FOUR pixels. I guess that when it's on, the light is able to shine through most of it, but not the center.

Was sitting on the couch, looked at my son and said; "Should'a bought the 82" one..." He just laughed...

Nice find.

Got lucky, again...  There is onother issue this TV has with non HD channels.   The ends of the screen are stretched out a bit.  If you are watching a scroll go across the bottom, it scrunches in from the right side, then pulls out on the left like this:   <=------------------------------------------------------=>
Waiting for best Buy's reply on the dirt particle inside, on the screen...

It does not do it on HD displays, only 480p SDTV pictures...   Looks weird when someone's head moves towards the ends, it gets stretched out a little...

Video Games?  AWESOME man...  Played Dragon Rising, and Bio Shock yesterday...  Was on Bio Shock for about 2 hours...  That was with component, will play on the HDMI box tonight...
