looking for some advice on what to do with my ps3 its an 80gig i got in the holiday motor storm bundle last year, and it plays aps2 so far ![]()
so first off here is the problem
i believe it over heats
recently probally a month or so ago maybe longer, i sometimes go without playing for a week or two because of work. and i noticed the problem first when i installed GTA4, i cannot remeber if it was present before then of not. But specifically with GTA4 after about five minutes of actual time it will freeze up. and then it has done it on the most recent game i got and installed. with this game though it takes anywhere from 5-25 minutes to freeze. the underside of the right side(the section near teh blu ray player that is not quite as thick as the rest of the PS3) gets extremely hot. i dont get any flashing lights, if i remeber correctly just the blue and green lights are on and it occured to me the other day that my ps3 is very quite any more, when i first got it, it was very loud, i assumed it was the cooling fan....so that is the problem and here is what i have doen so far....
I restored the file system a variety of times, and bought an external cooling fan, and formatted the harddrive, and vaccummed the vents. this seemed to work for about a week. and then it started doing the same thing again.
Would i be correct to assume that the cooling fan inside isnt working? or is the bluray drive gtting to hot? Could i have damaged the HDD or anything else? Because the older games i had on it before the formatting seemed to work fine and not freeze up...but i am not 100% sure of this.
its out of warranty so i am messing around with it. I have already taken it apart and am waiting for the arival of a new 19 blade fan. i have cleaned the inside the best i can without so far totally disasembling the mother board and everything else. and on a side note during my disection the on/off and eject band became disconnected from the base board, the clip came off the leads on the main board... Oops can i try to push it back onto the leads? does it have to match up perfectly and if so, how can i go about fixing this problem? and if i have really f*ed it up, would a repair shop fixing mostly video game consoles be able to remedy the leads for the on/off eject buttons?
i perhaps shouldnt have tried to do this myself so far, but i wanted to save some cash and didnt want to lose my backward compatibility by sending it off to sony or any other repair shop.
i thank you in advance..

well to see if the inside fan still works i would try running the factory fan test on it (or what ever you want to call it) if your not sure how to do it just follow the directions from the video

if the fans dont run then the fan motors are probably blown at that point you will need to find a new way of cooling the ps3. if its not then im not sure what it would be seeing as you seemed to have tried all the simple options.
