Installation of new Motherboard

Hi Newbie here. I had a lightning strike which fried the motherboard of my 80gb PS3. I purchased a replacement board off of e-bay same 80gb board. I installed it moved the drives over from the old system and started it up. It asked me to re-format the old drive and I did..I did not do a backup since the old system was not working. I thought the o/s would be installed by the motherboard. It is now asking me to insert a disk that has version 2.70 or later operating system. Where do I get the o/s. I tried downloading 3.01 from the Sony site and installing the upgrade but it tells me that it is the wrong version.  Am I SOL or can I get through this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Installation of new Motherboard

If you purchased just the BOARD, you are SOL before you started.  Your PS3 won't read game discs, as the optical drive and motherboard are MARRIED.  If you did not get the bluray drive that is for that mainboard, you wasted your money.

Re: Installation of new Motherboard

Doesn't matter, without the matching drive or at least logic board from the drive, it still won't work.
