Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

So I heard Windows 7 is being released tomorrow. Anyone think they'll be upgrading? Personally I'm it's way better than what the beta was like for me. But then again that's why there's a beta in the first place. It should be pretty good. What do you guys think?

I'll be dual-booting it with Win XP, Win 7 is great but you can't beat good ol' XP smile

I've been using it for a few weeks now. It's alot better than Vista. I like it, still gotta upgrade my laptop to Windows 7 soon.

Re: Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

It was leaked. I seen 7600 Ultimate somewhere. I was hoping for new DRM in the form of an advance rootkit or something, but it'd the same method as vista.

The security in vista and 7 have a lot of security similarities with popular posix systems, just a more productive interface. I used it, but I'm on netbooks and laptops now because I'm between countries and am about to move again. I might try it on a small system and just stop most of the background services.

Finished downloading it last night. I'll be upgrading to it today. Haven't used it since the Beta so I hope I'm gonna like what I see.

Re: Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

So far so good. It's not as buggy as the beta but that's usually how it is. But I'm liking it. It's faster than my xp was. I'd recommend if anyone is still thinking about the upgrade.

Re: Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

Windows 7 is faster, as it is OPTIMIZED for todays CPUs.  The 64 bit version takes good advantage of 64bit cpus, and DUAL core CPUs.  I like the speed it has...  I may change over, but that's too much work.  Best Buy has a 199.99 Atom PC that's the size of a portable DVD player, but more square. It's pretty fast, I may buy one and attach it to the back of my 60"LCD.  IT has an HDMI output too.

Re: Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

Just installed to testing my version of "Windows 7 Ultimate" to make sure it's completly functional and it's super fast.

PS I don't think those Atoms are that great at decoding, if your gonna get an Atom system make sure the GPU can decode HD content

It has the NVIDIA ION LE graphics chipset. NVIDIA® ION™ graphics processors turn up the visuals on compact, low-power PCs with performance up to 10X faster than similar systems. When combined with a low-power CPU like Intel Atom, ION graphics processors transform traditional under-performing PC designs into a premium experience.

Key Benefits
    * Premium DirectX 10 graphics with advanced digital display connectivity
    * Full 1080p HD video with true-fidelity 7.1 audio
    * NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology to accelerate the most demanding applications, vastly improving your PC’s ability to work with visual content such as video encoding
    * Premium Windows experience with Windows Vista and Windows 7

Ha!  You really think that I would buy something that would have sub-par graphics?  Besides that, it would only be a media SERVER, not a game machine, or anything to watch movies on. This would work for what I need it to to.  If I were to build one, it would cost me more. I wanted a Socket AM2, 2+ or 3, with a CPU, and that's going to run me over 199.99 with RAM.   This one has DDR2, and will do what I need it to do.  Still on the fence about it though, the WIFE tents to turn the 60" TV into her ultimate browsing experience...

$199.99 at Best Buy - It's the Acer AspireRevo AR1600-U910H, with the Intel Atom 230 (1.6GHz) 1GB DDR2 160GB HDD.  Funny thing is, the processor is listed twice in the Device Manager, and it is not a dual core CPU.  I removed them from the hardware manager, and when it rebooted, there were TWO again...   I have an Athlon63 X2 4200 and it lists two CPUs as well.   These are also great for using in a car!

It has two memory slots, they're probably the Laptop type, and one is available.  It has 1GB DDR2, and DDR2 is cheaper than DDR...  I would upgrade to 2GB immediately.   Something else may come along for me though, like a free P4 PC, so who knows.

Some places are also selling PCs and Laptops with Vista, but include a free upgrade to Win7.

Can you upgrade from an Exploited version of Vista to Win7?

It said that you can't, after all it checks your system files/info during upgrade.

Re: Windows 7 Release tomorrow? (Oct. 22/09)

My school teacher gave me a copy of Windows 7, which he says he has worked and he used himself.

Questions:
He said I can install Windows 7 from the desktop, leaving a partition behind called Windows.old
Now, after I've copied all the files out of there (such as My Music, Pictures, Videos, etc) can I simply delete the folder "Windows.old" or is there another way to remove it.

Also, according to the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it says my Video Card cannot run Aero. BUT I then noticed that the program, CTI Catalyst Analyst, which is what is used with my Video Card, is "Not recognized" by the system itself. Does this mean it will work once I reinstall the program OR that there is a high chance of it not working? Just wondering, in advance, of course.
