PS2 Emulation for PS3, a future possibility?
I've just seen that a meeting from Sega and Sony has been "leaked", and between the interesting facts they were discussing, you can see:
PS2 emulator for PS3 (confidential)
- SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN (GTA Vice City/Sonic/etc)
- For co Marketing money show PS3 controller on TV ads – similar to EA Madden Spots, NCAA, etc…
As you might remember, we told when speaking about the Slim model that it has a "- New and more powerful CPU. (...) if we could wish for something, what about that software retro-compatibility with PS2, now that we can?" Looks like that was the idea.
Anyway, as TGS is soon, we'll probably see something related there. Even though, this might not be just for Slim models, as you can also overclock old CPU's if they aren't enough, as it was done on PSP..
On the other side, you can see tons of new games and even a Motion Controller, for Spring 2010, coming new details on Sept 1st. Hopefully, we'll see this soon!

First of all, the SLIM does NOT have a all new and more powerful CPU. The fact of the matter is, with a 45nm process, it naturally makes the CPU faster, no more POWERFUL. Still, they are throttled back to their 3.2Ghz speed. It is not NEW, it is smaller, faster, and less power consumption; they are NOT taking advantage of the speed, and they can't, because games might become instable.
Some PS2 games are being UPDATED for PS3, not to run emulated, but native.
Sony has made NO plans on a BwC emulator for the PS3, that leaked information is what it is, LEAKED. I hold nothing to it.
Sony has to make up their minds, but people are already MAD, and went and bought PS2s at 99.99 each, now more salt to the wounds by planning an Emulator? More than 50% already emulate PS2 in one way or another, so why did they abandon it in the first place? UNSTABLE... While PS2 emulation would be nice, is is necessary with PS2s a dime a dozen? I personally, don't think so...

wow a system that is 5 years off already have outrageous speculation. i must say some people will pull a whole lot of randomness out of nowhere. heck the article mentions that the PS4 could be released next year in the very first paragraph. really something that dosnt even have a beta show model could possibly have a 2010 release with the PS3 having no plans of being phased out as of yet. that web site is good for a laugh seeing as i never see a source mentioned for any article.

I see PS2->PS3 ports coming on a per-game basis. You put the conversion cost on the game's developer instead of Sony. Full software emulation of the PS2 is likely more work than they want to put in, at least at this time.

I was also going to point out the CBE had identical specs, just more thermal and power efficient. I doubt even the most anal retentive user is going to see improvements in game play even long term.
I'd actually like to see anything interesting happen with the PS3. Even content wise. The x360 has BOGT for GTA now, and all other games kind of blow. EA Skate 2 and GTA IV are about all you have unless you're into linear combat. Sports games are still Sega Genesis grade just with better graphics and audio.
