So, as we all know the PS3 haven't been really hacked (we can only make it crash, lol), but the Java via Blu-ray disc works just fine for some basic homebrew, right? ( I mean the pong and stuff).
Have they patched it? How much is it capable of doing- i mean is there access to RSX and stuff, or is it blocked like in Linux/OtherOS?
We could get some quite nice stuff (afaik there's internet connection avaible there) to work just fine- like some reaaaaaaly basic emulators (commodore, and stuff) (I know that java sucks kinda hard when it comes to the speed, but hey- at least we can get it working, eh).
Have anyone actually bothered to check how far can BD-J go? It might be quite usefull.
@edit Gosh i use "and stuff" too often XD

It appears that recording to any homebrew BD-R BD-Java, this can be run from any console from any firmware. To make it work implements have to record the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders in the root of the disk. PS3 to get it into the menu of [Video] we will bear in our BD and homebrew. From here it follows that only banned the BD-Java and the USB reader devices Letor BD but no ban.
What do you think? Surprised? I think from this you can make the PS3 Scene reborn a bit to take it away because it took off all his scene. With this the Sony console is able to load emulators, and homebrew games Aplisa.

2.80+ apparently. Check out the link 'Street Skaters Blog'.

BR-J: Firmware 2.60 has blocked this easy route into simple XMB-based games. Previously you could trick the PS3 into thinking a USB pen drive was a Blu-ray drive, and get it to run some simple, safe Java games directly, but this is no longer the case.

this is a new method powerslave. it involves burning the homebrew to a bd-r and it works on 2.80 (3.0 aswell according to the youtube comment.

So, they're doing it from the BR-D... If you got the money to buy blanks, and a burner to boot, then you're good to go... They only blocked it from the Memory/Thumb drives, they can't top it from the BR-D directly else movies with it would fail... So, lets see what they do with it...

to make this practical. someone needs to code a loader (if possible in java... i really dunno) and then idk if it would work on a RW disk but if so everything would just be pretty damn cool.

wait, so this only works via blu ray, and not via DVD right?

That was not covered, give it a go, a DVD-RW....

anyone try it with a dvd-rw yet? i doubt it would work and i don't have any RW's free atm.
but if some tries it and it does work it would be cool to know.

I did stuff with it before the later firmware came along. Here is some of the stuff you can do with it:

I remember there are some functions to probe the JRE/VM. The rest are pretty boring. You could fuzz it to find vulnerabilities and maybe it'll be on the primary LPAR.
EDIT:Put AVCD on the data DVD and if it doesn't work then it's no go. No DVD system such as VCD has JME support or anything like it.
