I am sure there are plenty of posts about this but from what I have heard is that xbox live blows PSN away in comparison, as far as live content goes, lag, and so forth. That being said I am strongly considering to sell my XBOX 360 or trade it in order to get a PS3. The main reason being free is free, xbox live and having to pay for it just absolutely pisses me off. I also can't afford both.
So I am wondering what your opinions are. This being a PS3 forum I assume it will be largely one sided but what are your feelings about PSN vs XBOX Live?
Thanks everyone.

i had an xbox for 4 months right around the release of halo 3 and at the time i would say the live experience was pretty good compared to the psn but i found the online gaming experience to suck on the 360 compared to the ps3 alot of lag in every match no matter when i played compared to the ps3 which was here and there... but my answer would be the psn experience is better i dont see what the hype is bout the 360 i owned one and didnt like it enough to keep it... i still couldnt get away from the ps3 at thats with the pressure of having more people i know on the 360! and if your worried bout friends u meet new people to play with home does help out alot with that too because of the game launching and when they do meets... but if your a cross game chat kinda person your still gonna have to wait for that its the only thing the 360 has over the ps3 at this moment... this is just my opinion though of course... all i can say is go with the system that has the exclusive games you wanna play

I have both XBOX360 and PS3. Pretty much, I noticed my XBOX (especially on Gears of War 2) lags a lot if both systems are online at the same time, but the PS3 does not lag.
Besides that, everything is identical on PSN and LIVE minus cross-game chat. Which personally, I would love to see in PSN because my free-LIVE trial is over and I don't plan on getting a new subscription any time soon.

tHanks a lot guys you really help answer my question. Anyone looking for an xbox 360?? hah
Edit 13:40:01 My next question would be which ps3 version do iget? My intentions for my ps3 are going to be to stream. Music movies and play video games I have no ps2 games and I have enough comps with Linux on it. Do you think slim would best?

Well if it meets your requirements, i'd say to get it. ![]()
Also double posting isn't allowed, you can use the edit function, just giving you a warning

Streaming and watching movies are done throughout all the PS3's
All you need is a program to send the files over (since I'm using a PC, I'm using WMP).

Xbox live was around since XB1, so yeah it is better, but not FREE. M$ has had a HUGE head start with on-line play, DLC, and so on. Sony is only mimicking it... Sony's is only better, in this case, because on-line play is FREE, that's it.

Not really. My XBOX lags, while play PS3 doesn't. Both using the same router and I bought identical Ethernet cables. Sometimes me and my brother play at the same time, only the XBOX lags.

I have had XBL since XB1 days, and I have never had any lag while on-line. I guess I just do EVERYTHING right...

What games have you played? Try going on GEARS OF WAR 2 without lag.
Or perhaps my internet is inferior to yours? Who knows.

i have both and recently i have been playing alot of xbox. and i agree with jon that 360 lags alot, but that is only on gears of war 2. i think they both are practically the same the only thing that probably is better on 360 is cross game chats and invites, as well as voice messages. But the psn is free so it equals out. they might also get cross game chats and stuff in ps3 soon too.

Yea, GEARS 2 lags so much. I only have 2 games for XBOX, that and FABLE 2. I never played FABLE online, but I've been playing gears of war 2; it takes like 5 minutes to find a game, than it lags after that.
Not to mention, if the host leaves (meaning you have "left the server"), you lost 15000XP. Waste of time.

gears, cod 4, halo 3, cod 5 ive played on the 360 and they all lag not to mention u got alot of cheaters on live using the lag trips i found my experience on ps3 online better fair you will have some lag but not to often and i dont have to deal to as much with the online cheaters that plague live!

The lagging is due to the people hosting, on Internet connections that do not have good upload speeds. If you play with just a few people, it is fine. It all depends on the host, and their internet connection. IF they have a VoIP phone, are torrenting, and all that at the SAME TIME, then the stuff lags, because THEIR upstream bandwidth is consumed. I got a 2Gbit upstream, 12Gbit down, so I would be good to go... People want to play on-line so BAD, they don't care what their upload speeds are, then everything lags because their upstream SUCKS...

That's funny, i just found this out a couple days ago. I play fighting games and so most/all of them are P2P. One of the main people I play online with is always hosting because he has the best connection. When 3.0 came out I asked him to do the connection test because it includes a speed test now (try it out)
Mine was about 10.5mbitps download and just under 1mbitps upload.
His was 3.1mbitps download and 4.7mbitps upload...
Yeeeah, so I had never heard of anyone having a higher upload than download speed before this, he has like the perfect connection for hosting but his download speed needs a lot of improvement.
PowerSlave, is you online gaming setup just plug and play or have you actually tweeked anything to get better online gaming performance?

I have done nothing, just plugged into a router, and go. Then again, I am an I.T. and for me, it's not brain surgery. I never have the issues people have, I don't know why, and I am glad. I did not open any ports, no QoS for the game consoles, NOTHING...
