PS3-Hacks.com / 2.80 not maditory?

6 days and numerous power ons and offs and even swapped between 2 houses and it still hasint asked me to download the update. i play online every day too. is sony actually being nice to ORP users? anyone else not have to update yet

I don't thinl it was sony's intension to screw up orp as if this is not mandetory, then you don't have to update, therefor sony knowing that this would not affect the current orp status. I think there must have been a few other fixes in this update other than what was said. I have noticed a few improvements. I think this might have something to do with the difforent models out and that it is just an option for those of us that don't have that perticulour model.

it died last year under the futureshop warrinty and since they didint have any 60gb's in canada they gave me credit

the updates are not mandatory anymore... it will prompt u once if u catch it but it will still let u sign in gimme a few and ill find the link confirming it...

here it is eric lempel states here we now have the option to update or not...

so if u want to update from the ps3 just go to update via web...

as soon as i tuned on my ps3 it said Update Required and found 2.80.

the only thing i can think of that since it had 2.53 an update was required and it found that 2.80 was the newest.

Yea, I called SONY and they gave me the 60GB, so not sure about futureshop and all. I had to wait around 2 weeks for it back, but was worth it.
