Owkay, what to do when you made a typo?
I now get this message during boot time and it keeps repeating itself:
/init: /etc/kboot.conf: 9: Syntax Error: Unterminated quoted string
I forgot my quotes. How can I change the file kboot.conf before it boots?

YOU NEED FW 1.7 in order for this to work!
3. Install the new kernel
rpm -ivh /path/to/kernel-ps3-2.6.16-20070425.ydl.3.ppc64.rpm
4. Edit /etc/kboot.conf
Take your default kernel line, and make a copy of it and then modify
the original line to point to the new kernel.
For example, if your default kernel line is:
ydl='/dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3 initrd=/dev/sda1:/initrd-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3.img root=/dev/sda2 video=ps3fb:mode:3 rhgb'
The new section would like this:
ydl='/dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20070425.ydl.3ps3 initrd=/dev/sda1:/initrd-2.6.16-20070425.ydl.3ps3.img root=/dev/sda2 init=/sbin/init video=ps3fb:mode:3 rhgb'
oldydl='/dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3 initrd=/dev/sda1:/initrd-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3.img root=/dev/sda2 video=ps3fb:mode:3 rhgb'
Where oldydl is your original kernel.
This is what I have trouble with, I have YDL, and the file downloaded, but I am oblivious to how to instyall ANYTHING on linux. plz help

You have to be logged in as ROOT admin to be able to make such changes, when it asks you for your name and password at start up, typoe
name: ROOT
password: *type your password here*
And you will be taken to a new session were you will have full control with CMD.

yes, i've done that. but where can I find the etc/kboot.conf? there is no my computer icon.
thanx...

Do you have a simple step-by-step guide for idiots who don't understand what to do? I'm today's idiot! lol
Offline
there is no such thing as a simple step-by-step guide when it comes to editing the kboot. the directions are pretty self-explanatory, sorry.

Offline
Ok, sorry if it already says, but how do I edit it? What program etc.? I have absolutely no idea about these things.
Offline
better u read carefully. important to login as root and editing to modify the kboot.conf. just edit the number, add old to the original kernel (oldydl, oldydl480i, oldydl1080i, oldydltext) and then save it. get in nautilus>program files>etc>kboot.conf
ydl='/dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-0.ydl.rc4 initrd=/dev/sda1:/initrd-2.6.16-0.ydl.rc4.img root=LABEL=/sbin/init video=ps3fb:mode:3 rhgb'
*bold- may different

Most linux OSs don't have nice GUI installation like other OSs such as Windows and Mac.
This installation steps were straight from Terrasoft Representatives but thing is that the names of the files and locations are different for people because they dl from different sources and they tend to rename it to promote their site/group.
