Linux on the PS3 can have many benefits, depending on what you would want to use it for.  It can be used as a MythTV frontend (over network, of course), a decent web browser, an all-in-one HTPC (think MegaBOX), or even a web server.

I wouldn't try running any 3D games or decoding video though ^^.
