I just had an idea but I'm not sure if it would work
just thought I'd put it out here
The ps3 allows for installation for other operating systems
and the Ps3 blu-ray player can run dvd's as well.
could it be possible to install the xbox360 firmware
an another os?
Offline
NO
the OtherOS relly just LINUX type OSes
and
xbox360 firmware CANT run on the PS3
an OS is NOT the same as firmware
firmware is for hardware

well i think ryu has this pretty much handled but just to let you know xp runs like sh*t

2 systems, both PowerPC instruction set, different memory maps and BIOS->DRM configurations, and different chip interfaces.
OtherOS runs only Linux because windows has never had RISC support outside the CE platform, and Sony/IBM/Toshiba didn't go to anyone else and provide house engineers and kernel code for the hyper visor interface. It was actually smart on their part, because it officially isn't socially acceptable to attack the PS3 because it runs Linux; reminds me of another vector of IT security....

i think the ps3 is too powerfull to run XB360 firmware, it will need to run in slowmotion.

That is, of course, wrong.... hee hee, but in case SOMEONE believes you...
The XB360 Xenon CPU is three cores, two threads per core. PS3 CPU is six game O/S cores, one thread per core, which is about even.
I have an Atom 230 1.6Hgz CPU in my Acer NetTOP Media Sever. It is a DUAL THREAD CPU, not dual core, but almost as good, since I can dedicate one thread for the media server.
PS3's memory configuration limits its abilities, with no frame buffer for the GPU either...
BEFORE saying anything, the new final fantasy looks worse on 360 only because of data COMPRESSION, not because of the power. When you compress graphics, they loose detail. Take a simple JPG, and compress it, the more you compress it, the less detail you see. Only having 6.x GB per disc limits the games detail because of the compression needed for graphics.
The XB360, though slightly inferior overall raw CPU power, it works better in conjunction with the components it has -vs- the PS3. Some of the graphics can be handled in the 10Mb eDRAM Frame Buffer, the PS3 does not have a frame buffer. This allows more of the 512MB to be shifted where it is needed, and the PS3 is stuck with 256/256 between CPU/GPU.
And so on, and so forth...
