PS2 Emulator Question

Evening everybody!

Although I've been visiting PS forums for a long time, I'm only now starting to write, so this might sound like it came from a newbie.
And I hope this is the right section and that this question hasn't been answered before in this forum...

Anyway, I was thinking about how ps3 game demos are launched from the xmb once installed, with networking, and other functions.
Couldn't it be possible to create and install homebrew (as the ps2 emulator), like game devs do with their demos?
The emulator would run as a game demo and them read the data from the disc drive.

I'd like to know if any of this is possible. Thanks in advance.

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

im going to anser this nice before you get flamed to death.

simply put no its not posible to do. you would need to have the emulators code be signed by sony for the PS3 to recognize and run it. it has been ansered before.

No, the PS3 is not hacked at all, so no homebrew will run. You would need a DEBUG unit.
The emulator would run as a game demo and them read the data from the disc drive.
There was talk of, MAYBE, a downloadable PS2 emulator for PS3, but there has been no word from Sony.

I'd like to know if any of this is possible. Thanks in advance.
So right now, NO.

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

Thanks for clicking on the topic, people.
So, it's doable, just not for now...
I also heard about the ps2 emulator, but as it wasn't released...

I'd like to know why the code needs to be signed by sony, because no other hacks are.
:idea:And people create game demos that run on normal ps3's, so why can't people create homebrew that act as ps3 demos?
I mean, if game devs get the tools needed, why doesn't anybody else get them? (apart from obvious resons...)

even the demos you play on the PS3 that you download off the PSN are signed by sony. but even if the normal person did have the development tools needed to program such an emulator they would still need to submit it to sony to have sony sign the software before it would run on a non-debug PS3.

What do you know about HACKS?  What HACKs don't need signed, GAME SAVE hacks?   Of course not, that has nothing to do with hacking the CONSOLE...

I suggest you read up on the Level 1 Hypervisor, and Sony's CPU security and Key Vault.

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

Simply put, the only software that can be run on a Playstation 3 is signed by Sony.
That's why it would have to be signed by Sony.
:-D.

I can't tell; are there specific instructions that new individuals follow when entering?
Actually, that couldn't work; they don't follow or read any directions given; it must be instinctive.

Most of you wrote:

not possible to run unsigned code on retail ps3's

You're probably into this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNPbNgsIuic
Is it fake?

And

Powerslave wrote:

I meant that other technological device modifications are suposed to be made without the knowledge or, at least, interference/help from the product maker. (when I asked why I was expecting some tech talk)

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

Oh yeah.  we could wright a PS2 emulator in the game update of Resistance.  DUH.  Does it look they got anything.  I don't see where they were running unsigned code.  They say they were so people who have know clue what's going on, such as yourself, will believe that.  They could have easily just put nonsense in the update that caused the system to hang.

Sony needs to approve of it to cover their own asses and not get sued.

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

I'm really new here, but I 've learned that you can play PS1 Isos on a ps2 by burning it to a dvd rw using Playstation 2 formatting, i theory, wouldn't it work on a PS3 to run ps2 games if you burn them onto a DvDRW using a PS3 Bluray as the source of the formatting? something to do with swap magic I think.

Re: PS2 Emulator Question

.....no in theory that wont work just burning the iso image to the BD-R.

but anyways if your going to spend money on buying a BD burner and blank blu rays then you would be better off just buy the PS2 and buy the games or mod that console to play back ups. i think that way might actually be cheaper.

EDIT: oh did you even read anything in this thread?
