I've created a few back ups of windows vista before and when I go to burn the ISO I burn it as an Image at 4x speed and everytime I've done this it will never boot. No matter what it wont boot. I don't know what im doing wrong. I've also tried creating an iso of a different Vista CD. I have a 64bit capable processor so that shouldn't matter. Ive burned them on DVD +R discs. Am I doing something wrong?
I've also set up everything in my BIOS but it act as if it doesn't even know the disc is bootable. When I instert the disc in while running XP it says Windows cannot run this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media.

Maybe the boot sector isn't present on your backup. I had slipstreamed SP2 into my OEM XP installation disc but the boot sector was no longer present. It was an easy fix but I don't know right of what you need. I forget lol its been a long time.

Microsoft changed how the boot is handled in Vista, but Never heard of that happening with a ISO write, but see your PM. It should work... The boot sector could be non standard, but I Was able to download the BETA from M$ a while back, and it booted fine. IT has to be something with your ISO.

Okay so what exactly is the recovery disc supposed to do? Will it fix iso?

Dude. You act like downloading stuff is just something simple. If only it was that way for me. I, unlike others, am cursed with a fate that I shall never be blessed with the heavenly speeds you have.... Besides this copy is a good copy. Just like others i've had. Yet for all of them I get the same message. Ive tried over 3 different copies.

You said you get the same message, but you haven't said what that message is...

Try that?

Theres the message.

Ahh, so yeah, it DID work, but as I said earlier, they changed the way Vista boots. That is a boot-strap message, so it did "BOOT" just to the message and not the SETUP because it detected an error.
Why? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930891

I cant even boot from when starting my computer. It doesn't detect it. It skips it and just goes to boot up XP. Its as if I don't even have the disc in there.
RESOLUTION
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows XP and want to install a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you must boot the computer from the 64-bit Windows Vista DVD and then perform a custom installation of Windows Vista. Back up data before you start the custom installation.
Well I cant do that because it won't boot at all. Neither did any other back up copy I tried.

OMG alright Mick. I opened it up in magicISO and bootable is inside the red lines. Happy now?

Dude. I tried three different ISOs. An XP one. That boot disc ISO. And the Vista ISO. Same color for all of them. Heres a picture of the Vista ISO. You tell me which color it is.

Also, mick, it does not matter. If you are making an ISO of an already bootable disc, then the copy made from the ISO should also be bootable.
IF it did not have valid a boot sector, it would just boot like there was no disc in the drive, which he said it was doing. So, how did he get the "Windows cannot run this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media."? By running setup manually from Windows?
AS a check, just make sure your BOOT ORDER in the BIOS has not changed. 1st device should be DVD-ROM, then HDD and so on. I know it sounds dumb, but just check that....
Also, during boot: Do you have any USB storage devices attached? (Flash Drives, External Drives, etc.) The culprit to a problem was a USB flash drive preventing a proper boot.
Everything I have read, is non related to the DISC or ISO itself... IF you made an ISO with the original, then it should boot as the original does.

I checked and it was. Everything was the way its supposed to be. BTW what is that recovery disc supposed to do?

The recovery disc is just a REPAIR console like for XP repair console. It is not a FULL install disc; both are in the 240-268Mb range so nothing fancy... I don't know why you are having this problem. I downloaded my Vista from M$, it was an ISO, and when I burned it, it booted fine. It was Vista RC1 both 32bit and 64bit versions booted, that key expired June 2007. Have you seen if it would boot on someone else's machine, or a LapTop?

I got it working. My dvd drive was like set to the wrong thing in my Bios. It wasnt the boot order. Its hard to explain but Its taken care of.

Yeah see, it's always something stupid huh? I know they boot, so that's why I said to look into the bios setting for boot order, but you found something else, which is cool...
