I think you mean PS3. 

Yes you can play games on your PS3.  Why wouldn't you?
No your saves will be erased because you have to format the HDD.  You can back-up all the data with the back up utility.

You can use Pidgin on the Linux side with can use AIM MSN Yahoo Messaging etc.
It's not going to be anywhere near a nice computer.
No again, why would they do that.
YDL is probably the best for PS3 as it's designed for the PS3.

Also Linux is spelled Linux with a u   cause that's how it sounds... Linux not linX
