Explorer.exe on my computer keeps crashing for no reason. Everytime I have two folders open at once or sometimes just opening one folder after I browse around in them for a while it will freeze and I have to restart explorer.exe. I looked around and tried to find a solution to this but I cant find one that has my problem. I tried scan disc and that didnt work. I dont have any virus's on my computer. What could be causing this problem or do you know of any way to fix it?
When explorer crashes I dont get an error message or anything. It just freezes and I either go into task manager to close out of it and restart it or X out of the folder im in to get the non responsive program message. I just usually click end now.

You can always try a Windows repair by putting in your Windows xp or vista (whatever os you have) and boot off of that and do a repair.
Also, spyware/malware can cause explorer issues as well so you may want to download software to scan for spyware/malware such as Spybot or MalwareBytes

I had the same problem, i also found that my CPU was working at 100%

My CPU rarely gets up to 100% Only when converting videos or rendering videos. Most of the time it doesn't get up to 100% even then. And I have XP but I dont want to do repair. I only have a SP1 disc and I don't want to reinstall all the updates. Besides I heard that most of the time repair won't work.

If you can manage to get task manager running, see what is taking up all the CPU time. You can sort by CPU usage by clicking twice on the top of the CPU column. If it IS explorer.exe see if you can extract another one from the CAB files, or get another one elsewhere. If it is something else, you will see it.

Nothin is really. Firefox takes up maybe 5% but thats all. But explorer is right up there with it. What mem usage?
Im guessing its memory usage but that would be my ram right? At the bottom it also says commit charge. Whats that?

I had that problem before. Don't think I ever fixed it...my computer died so I got a new one.

Commit Charge is your VIRTUAL Cache, using HDD as Ram. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commit_charge
Explorer should not get big or use up too much CPU time. If a virus is embedded into it, then it would. Mine is like 26K right now, with windows explorer open (looking at files) 00 listed in CPU cycles. I closed the Windows Explorer, and it went down to 21K.

Thats around how much mine is. Hardly uses any CPU and in the 20k mem usage.

it is normal to see explorer.exe uses 20K mem
