Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

What are the limits of BD-J's power? Could it run SNES ROMs? GBA? More powerul consoles like the Jag or PS1?

i think it might be able to handle SNES but I doubt it will handle anything more powerful than that.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

Possibly, I don't know a lot about java programming, It may have higher capabilities.
But, will have to see what they come up with.

Until then I'm happy with emulators on PC.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

There are JAVA "MAME" games out there, not sure BR-J is geared for emulation with more advanced consoles like N64, SNES, and PS1.  They have to be careful though, the best we would get from BR-J would be PS1 emulation, but the SOUND is still the main issue with all emulation using BR-J.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

The controls are a bit screwy. If they create a BD-J emulator that lets PS3 play PS1 games off a memory stick, will the START, SELECT, O, buttons work right?

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

I don't believe so, because those are main commands given to BD movies.

Remember, the PS3 thinks your watching a Video.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

or a BD remote....
You could maybe get the "guts" of a BD remote, take a PS3 controller and hack it up.  IDK how big the board in the BD remote is though.  If you could squeeze it in a controller, maybe you could wire it up so the right face buttons (start O select etc) actually hit like RED or 1 or whatever it needs to be.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

Well, you can play BR-D games, like Dragon's Liar with the controller, used as the remote.  Emulation is different though, using BR-J.   I don't think mush is going to amount from BR-J...

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

From wikipedia about Blu-ray Disc Java.

    * Button sounds from HDMV can also be used by the Java UI framework. Sound files can be loaded and rendered as a reaction to the user pressing a key, or as a reaction on a marked event related to the movie - or as a reaction to any event generated by a BD-J Application.

So we may get sound.

    * Authenticated applications can use a (signed) permission request file to acquire permissions that go beyond the BD-J sandbox. Permissions can be acquired for:
o Reading and writing to local and system storage
o Using the network connection (to connect to defined servers)
o Access of the file system on the BD-ROM disc
o Title selection of other titles on the BD-ROM disc
o Control of other running BD-J applications

So we may get save games.

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

Great! Now, if only Sony would create a System Software Update that lets us configure the controls for watching videos!
