I have a chance to buy one from a co-worker, I a totally noob to the ps3, so I am not up on all the models, The price he wants for it is too good to pass up for me. I was wondering what would be my limitations with this model?

I know it doesn't have Wifi, but that is not really a big deal for me.....I live in Canada, so will there be any problems for me to get firmware updates ? Am I just better off saving my pennies for a few months, and getting a more recent release, or would those pennies be better served with a HD upgrade by myself.

Thanks for any advise you may provide.

The biggest problem you'll have is the region thing. You might not be able to play games you buy in Canada if its a Jap PS3. I dont know much about this but its so but the next guy who comes along will probable be able to tell you about the region restrictions. That link has everything you could ever want to know bout the PS3 and all the models. Powerslave did an amazing job making it maybe people should spend some time reading it like i have.

PS3 Games are "Region Free" is left up to the developer of the game.

only regions on ps2 games and dvd's. no fw probs either.

I'd save up for the new bundles coming in a couple of months. Dunno about in North America but in the PAL regions the 40GB is changing to 80GB with a DualShock 3. Both NTSC and PAL are getting a limited time only 160GB, same as the 40GB model but with the new controller and the HDD. The 160GB has different things bundled with it in the different regions.

If the price is really too good to pass on then it may be worth while purchasing it and then putting it in the buy/sell section for someone else to benefit from and at the same time making you a few bob.

What does: New Launch Date 20G Japan Model, have to do with you buying a used console from a co-worker?
