No, It uses Blu-Ray Disc Java. Not Swapmagic and what not.

Not sure if they can block it without jeopardizing BR-D Java altogether.   They may rendure some functions NOT to work, may may inadvertently effect legitimate BR-D java apps.   Well, not that the emulator is Illegitimate, but who know what they think about it.  I am sure Nintendo would have an issue, but that's really not Sony's concern.

Once this BR-d java is learned, you can expect some cool things.  They have Arcade Emulators now using Java, so once they get sound working?  We can have MAME for PS3 using BR-D Java.

Just a heads up for people, here is some information on BR-D Java (BD-J): BD-J is based on a packaged media profile of Globally Executable MHP, or GEM. GEM, in turn, forms the basis of most global digital television application standards, including Multimedia Home Platform ("DVB-MHP") for broadcast, satellite, and cable worldwide, OpenCable Application Platform ("OCAP") for North American cable, and Advanced Common Application Platform ("ACAP") for US broadcast. GEM is an ETSI standard; DVB-MHP is a DVB standard. All GEM-based standards are built on top of Java technology, invented by Sun Microsystems. Because BD-J, MHP, OCAP, and ACAP are all based on the Java platform, there is a high degree of content interoperability between these standards, making it easier, for example, for Blu-ray Disc content features to be made available on cable Video on Demand, or for interactive television content originally aired on broadcast television to be repackaged and made available on Blu-ray Disc.

BD-J Sample Code Xlet which is An Xlet is very similar to a Java applet and is designed to support applications for Digital TV. Xlets, unlike applets, can be paused and resumed. The Xlet interface is part of Sun's JavaTV specification.

Code:

import javax.tv.xlet.XletStateChangeException;
import javax.tv.xlet.XletContext;
import javax.tv.xlet.Xlet;

public class BasicXlet implements Xlet {
    public BasicXlet () {}
    public void initXlet (XletContext context) throws XletStateChangeException {}
    public void startXlet () throws XletStateChangeException {}
    public void pauseXlet () {}
    public void destroyXlet (boolean unconditional) throws XletStateChangeException {}
}

Re: BD-J Homebrew NES Emulator

I have a question does this use the ps3's power or just the BD-J. I figure it only uses BD-J but just making sure.

I dont think sony will block this because they are pretty open with user creativity but if this somehow leads to an exploit (which i think is unlikely) i think sony will just make a patch for the BD-J via firmware update. Unless there becomes some legal issues i don't think this is going to be blocked.

It is not HOME BREW technically.  The program is not in the console's native code, it's Sun JavaTV...  It executes trough the BR-D hardware, as a set-top one would.

Sun has established an open-source community at https://hdcookbook.dev.java.net that gives a programmer the tools needed to burn a recordable BD-RE disc at home, and play it on most consumer players, and the PS3.

BR-J is going to bring back Space Ace, on Blu-Ray, and will play and perform much better than Dragon's Lair.

Uh.  Did you extract it first?  Then put it in root. It doesn't need to be in a folder called video just the root of the flash drive.
