Eww, I remember those days. Didn't a lot of people end up with corrupt memory sticks because of the constant swapping?
Offline
Thoes days where a bit early as i started on the psp scene when i bought my psp which came with firmware 1.51, so really i started just before the MPH2.0downgrader was released.
But I did a bit of research to find it was called the psp swaploit, it allowed you to lauch homebrew but it doesnt say anything about have the same size memory sticks?
Just personally if i was to buy a HDD for the ps3 it would be 320gb, i dont really want to buy another 60gb one or two of the same memory.
Offline
i 2TB's of storage, two 750gb samsungs and another 500gb one seagate(which is very noisy imo). there 3.5" (obviously lol), i never attemped to hook one up to the ps3, but i did take the normal 2.5" one out, i can't see why i can't use the bigger ones. i hope something does really come out of this.

Hey guys,
here we have a tutorial for my newest PS3 exploit. What do you need? :
- PS3 with 1.7 - 1.81
- Warhawk beta PKG file (http://zeus.dl.playstation.net/cdn/UP9000/NPUA80093_00/
EHv0qnj9BGMdKm5VCNGyCUPU7hMKMrKsctfEve7DWJS9o5gnxH hVVAf0OHhm2v47a
FAiFsT5Y7u7PsVmTAL6FV4OhyRp4MEGyO2E1.pkg?product=0 084&country=us)
-Apache Server (http://www.apache.de/)
-Simple DNS Plus (http://www.simpledns.com/)
1st. Installing Apache Server :
Install your Apache Server on Windows, after that go into your Apache Install folder, you will find a Folder called "htdocs". Go in there, and make some new Folder so it looks like this :
"\htdocs\medius-patch\warhawk-pubeta\warhawk\20070608_r012\"
If you finished that, go back to the "htdocs" folder and create more new Folder so it looks like this :
"\htdocs\download\ps3\eu\fah\"
2.Setting up Files
We now have to copy all files we need. Go to the "20070608_r012" folder and download following files into it :
warhawk/20070608_r012/NPUA80093.cfg
-http://download-prod.online.scea.com/medius-patch/warhawk-pubeta/
warhawk/20070608_r012/NPUA80093_113_PARAM.sfo
-http://download-prod.online.scea.com/medius-patch/warhawk-pubeta/
warhawk/20070608_r012/NPUA80093_113_release.self
Next step is to copy the warhawk.pkg in to the "fah" folder and rename it to : fah.pkg.
3. Getting the DNS Server work
Download and install the Simple DNS Plus. When you are finished start it, and make a right mouse click on the icon and go to "EDIT DNS RECORDS".
Now you have to press "Quick Domain Wizard" Enter following data :
Domain Name : deu01.ps3.download.playstation.net (which is the server where the ps3 gets FAH)
Web ServerIP/Mail server IP/FTP serverIP/IPaddress : The IP of your apache server!
Now go once again on "Quick Domain Wizard" and enter this :
Domain Name : download-prod.online.scea.com (which is the server where the ps3 gets the Warhawk Update)
Web ServerIP/Mail server IP/FTP serverIP/IPaddress : The IP of your apache server!
4. Setting up the PS3 and installing Warhawk
Got to your PS3, and edit the Networksettings to you IP (DNS - Server). Now we need to Install Warhawk, for this you have to delete FAH (if you have installed it) and download it again! This time it will install Warhawk Beta on your PS3. If its finished start Warhawk.
5.Change Files to Update
Go to the Warhawk update folder, and open "NPUA80093.cfg",
this is the file in which Warhawk takes a look if there is
anything new. The original one contains this :
1.13 NPUA80093_113_release.self warhawkapp.self 8019192
1.13 NPUA80093_113_PARAM.sfo PARAM.SFO 1128
1.00 data00p.psarc data00p.psarc 3043387
Version Number / name of the File on the server/ name of the file on PS3 / size (bytes)
The last row is not allowed to edit, because if you do, the Update will fail! But you can change the first 2 rows.
E.g. if you want to swap the .png just put this into your .cfg :
1.13 NPUA80093_113_PIC0.png PIC0.PNG 4676
1.13 NPUA80093_113_PIC1.png PIC1.PNG 3031316
1.00 data00p.psarc data00p.psarc 3043387
Now press ONLINE in warhawk, if all works right, he willsee a new update and will download your files into the PS3HDD.
It is important that you just have 3 lines in the .cfg!
Also the files you want to replace in the ps3 have to exist!
originally here : http://www.ps3hax.com/forum/general-...hawk-game.html
the discovery could be similar to the method used above

it not running a backup
it just running warhawk off the HDD with out the CD in the PS3 (but motorstorm is in the PS3)
but warhawk is 100% installed to the ps3 HDD(when it play it anyway)
and you STILL NEED warhawk CD to run warhawk

Useless. I boot Warhawk without BD. Just go to store and buy it!!!

If you paid the money to DOWNLOAD Warhawk from the PS store, then you don't need the disc. Still, this is a half-assed way to run limited backups, and as stated, it only works with OLDer games. It's just a grasp at straws for some of you people to praise the attention mongering hackers, that want someof you people to believe they're "on the ball" with hacking the PS3. Point is, it will take MORE than half-assed limited backups to impress me.
Hell, at this point, it would probably be easier just to ASK someone who works for Sony for the keys, you have just as much a chance at that as cracking it...
They need to start where XB360 did, at the weakest link, the optical drive. Though the PS3s is more proprietary than the stupid mistake M$ made with going with PC DVD drives, it's a better than nothing. That may mean limited backups for now, that is, BR-D titles that will fit on a DVD-9. If you read the specs, PS3 games will run from a DVD.
I have not seen ANY progress or talk about doing anything with the optical drive, why is that? I think, that THEY THINK, they're so above Xbox users, that they don't want the same hack as the lowly Xbox360 people... Well, suck up your pride you hackers, get on the optical drive... Any ONE tittle in ONE reaion will ALL have the same key, which should be on the disc (the security sector), which is basically the key for that game. They should have had to to this similar to XB360, because of the Level 1 hypervisor. It ALL STARTS at the game disc...

If only blu-ray blank media was cheaper....

I just want to back up my PS1 and PS2 games on PS3. Backing up PS3 games would take too much space.

A new update from M$ this fall is introducing an option to copy the game to the HDD, this saves wear and tear on the DVD drive. We won't know what that all means till then, but I an going to guess you will need the original disc to get the game started each time. They can't just be allowing blind installs, as then people would be borrowing, and renting games and placing them on the HDD. They can't track any single game disc, as all the characteristics of the game are the same for its region.
Sony, of all people, already has had a plan on a technology for a game disc with a writable area that would basically sign it to the console it was first run on. Problem is, that would kill the game rental industry. This was already a doable technology, but the rental places had a fit. I could see doing that IF you installed it to your HDD, then scribe the disc, so that it can't be loaded again... This would make it only runnable in an optical drive, and no more HDD installs permitted. That would be a better way of going.
Anyhow, once M$ puts this item through in the dashboard, we will all know what it's all about.

Hopefully people with modded 360's won't get banned from live. I don't really care that much but I would be disappointed a bit. I play my PS3 online more anyway.

I'm sure there were some rumors about this when Sony announced the PS3.
Didn't they say that they would make the ps3 so that once you put the game in, it was assigned to your PS3 and that PS3 only. To stop people borrowing n stuff.
I'm sure i remember reading that. Obv that's going to be hard to do (possibly need a writer in the ps3 to do as well) however seems like a good idea to me.

I dont think its a good idea to assign 1 disc to 1 console. Maybe if you install it on the HDD would that be exceptable. What if I want to take a game over to a friend's house and play? I am not going to lug around my console to do so if he already has one. Even if it is installed on the HDD you would still need the disc in to get it to run so why couldn't I take my original disc and play anywhere? 1 game 1 console is a bad idea.
Offline
The technology was scraped for now, but it still exists. IT may be a good idea for some hand held platforms later on. AS I said, the game rental industry would be nonexistent with that kind of technology was used, the 1 for 1 deal. Once you rented the game, it would not work on the next rental... You also could not RESELL or TRADE your games either, and that just won't fly with anyone.
What they AUGHT to do, is allow one install to the HDD, then scribe the disc so that it can't be installed to HDD anymore (but have DRM backup issues in case of HDD failure). The game can still played in the optical drive, anywhere, just not installed to the HDD anymore. However, this was originally planed for the one game to one console thing, so that disc would only work in your console, period. It's either that, or individually serializing every game disc (I see that coming later, but not implemented - wasting more time and money), and it signs to the console that way, but still, you have to be connected to the internet for that to work, so it can be checked on someone else's console if they're on-line.
AS far as needing a writer? The only simple differences between a reader and a writer is A) firmware, B) Laser strength. Writers just amp up the laser, and refocus the lens during writes, that's basically it. The new standby mode for write is just the laser powered down to read mode; again, so the constant turning the laser off and on while writing won't wear it out faster. GAME consoles are notorious for failures in the laser because of this constant on and off while playing the game. Old writers with burn-proof technology turned the laser off when it got a buffer underrun, or other error, then turn back on and continue when the buffer caught up. Well, that damages the laser, and shortens the life by 50% if you have a few per disc burn. Low Power mode during the same WAIT keeps the laser on, in read mode, so it is just pulsed up to full write power.
Anyhow, PS3 is still a tough pistachio to open up..

I wouldn't feel comfortable with a console that can write discs...what if it went crazy and destroyed a game!? D:

Mr E....Disk are "printed" or "stamped" like a vinyl record. A writing laser can't change that. Ever put a CD you bought in the writing drive of your PC? Same thing. It's not a problem.
1 disk 1 console is a bad idea. No more EB Games trades.....

Yes, but they can always make the disc so that a sector, which is all it would take, that can be altered with a write powered up laser. The only reason you can't WRITE to a stamped disc is because the firmware says it is not recordable media. Technically, if you could override the firmware to write, you can DAMAGE (ruin data on it) the disc with the write laser. When the firmware sees DVD-ROM, or closed disc, it will not allow you to write, because the drive knows there is no writable media there. However, as I said, if you could tell the drive to write ANYWAY, you would ruin the disc.
I also said there would be no more rentals, or game trades, or selling your used games.
Mr.E - The drive can't go write crazy... When have you ever heard of that happening? As I said, when the media is seen as read only, the firmware will not allow a write command at all. IT has to be forced, and that hasn't been done yet. This new technology I speak of, WOULD override the write, but only to that ONE sector...

Powerslave, that's pretty much what I meant, just worded it very poorly. Like a vinyl record, yeah scratching a needle in the grooves could screw it up but it's designed to do it so you actually get sound from it. I can't type as fast as I think so things get messed up. I'm sorry.
