Some of you may already know this but it's something i just found out about today. If your having internet problems on your PS3 then Disable the Media Server Connection under Network Settings in the XMB.
That fixed all sorts of problems I had been having. Like downloading updates to games, getting kicked off the PSN and kicking everyone in the house offline and forcing me to reset my Router/Modem. Also I couldn't have my PS3 automatically sign me in when i turn it on cause it would time out and it has fixed that problem as well. It has also noticeably increased the internet and has significantly increased download speed from the PSN and I now have better connection on COD4.
You can safely leave it off forever. It's there because if your PS3 is on a network it allows you to connect to PCs and other media servers to access music, video, and photos. So unless you want to do that then you can leave the option off. I know form now on I will be leaving mine off till i am ready to stream some videos to my PS3.

Yeah, This also fixed my problem with PS2 Games, Whenever I'd try and play a PS2 Game It would just hang and not load.

Glad to see this is fixing peoples problems. It's odd that have this enabled messes up so much stuff in the PS3. It doesn't seem that difficult to fix.
