DVD to AVI: Or other format..

I Am looking for a good, FREE, DVD to AVI program.  I got BitRipper, and are testing that now.  Since I got that 500GB drive, I am placing my TREK library, and maybe Stargate there.  ANy suggestions?

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

"I got BitRipper, and IS testing it now"?
"I got BitRipper, and ARE testing it now" *Acceptable
"I got BitRipper, and AM testing it now" <=- Correct

What's the REAL problem with the grammar there?  That is acceptable, only because the ARE did not come directly after the "I" in "I got BitRipper".  I mean, now days, with all the WTF, OMG, OMFG, BF, BFF, and How R U, and all that other bullshit shorthand for Internet is atrocious compared to that...   The even SCARIER part is teachers are allowing this crap in school, when kids turn in reports and essays!

If I said "I are testing it now" that's incorrect, for sure. However, the somewhat acceptable method was used...  "AM testing it now" is the 100% correct grammar in both cases, but you get the gist..

Yeah, my kids write reports for school?  The teachers allow some of the most incorrect grammar you can think of, so kids go on thinking that is acceptable!  Like "Can I AXE you something?"  I refuse to allow that in my house...   Schools are allowing kids to talk that way, it's disgusting, so they grow up around the current generation looking like idiots.  Well, once we're dead, that will be acceptable aomg all, because the CORRECT way to speak will have been phased out...  F'ing schools, they're as lazy as the kids are today...

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

xvid4psp is a good free video converter program http://www.winnydows.com/request.php?33. Not sure if it will take copyright protection out of discs or not. I know it will work if you already made a backup of a DVD.

Easy use and high quality program for converting videos for PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, Hardware DVD and PC.

Import formats:
AVI DIVX ASF MPG MPE M2V MPEG VOB TS M2P D2V MOV QT 3GP HDMOV RM RAM RMVB RPX SMI SMIL MKV OGM WMV DVR-MS PMP FLV.

Export formats:
PMP AVC, MP4 PSP AVC, MP4 PSP ASP, MP4 iPod, MP4 iPod 640, MP4 iPod Touch, MP4 iPhone, MP4 PS3, MP4 Xbox 360, MP4, AVI, AVI DV PAL, AVI DV NTSC, AVI Hardware, MPEG-2 PAL, MPEG-2 NTSC, MPEG2-TS, MPEG2-PS, FLV, MKV.

Minimal requirements to system:
Windows Vista, XP SP2, Server 2003.
Microsoft Framework 3.0

Best and most simple way - install latest Klite Codec Pack and forgot about it. Also in this case you get fast decoding function for almost any input media file format.

Important note about codec packs:
Never mix different codec packs. It will kill your system.
Example: uninstall CCCP codec pack before instal Klite Codec Pack!
Also you must uninstall splitters before instal codec pack (Matroska Splitters).

On Windows Vista don`t need install framework, but need need turn off UAC (Control Panel - UAC - X).

Program encode any file playable in Media Player Classic (with DirectShowSource decoder). Require installed codecs for input file decoding. As alternative for problem files can be used FFMpegSource decoder (don`t need external codecs).

Program use AviSynth 2.5.7 as core for decoding and editing files.
AviSynth include in full versions of XviD4PSP or can be installed separate.

Good Point, I think shorthand is just a waste of time, and promotes laziness. Seriously, How much longer does it take to write it out?... Even when Instant Messaging I rarely use shorthand, maybe LOL or something like that.

And, like you say, enunciation is a growing problem aswell.

I was just busting your balls, though, nothing serious.

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

Well, I did get BitRipper, I was just asking of anything was better.  I did SEARCH first...  BitRipper was the one that I saw that looked ok.

I need to experiment and see if I can make larger VOB files, instead of it breaking at 1GB, I think there is an option for that.  Hmm, I think I will mess with that now...

Yeah, there is an option to disable SPLIT vob files...  I removed that, compressed it 45%, to over 2GB, so see how that works.

Oh, yeah, this is with DVD Shrink...

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

Well there are programs, where you can just take the extracted .vob files and re-encode them to .avi.

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

That option in DVD Shrink works.  Under preferences, OUTPUT FILES, uncheck the box that says:
[] Split VOB files into 1GB size chunks (recommended).

That will give you ONE big file.  You can then compress to bring the size down, and remove audio that is not needed, and subtitles and stuff.  Remember, for Fat32 is has to be below 4GB.  You can also use that to remove portions of the video like INTRO and CREDITS, and stuff...

Unless you're a 'Yam Yam' then it would've been correct lol.

Divx converter is good, that's what i use - not too bothered about perfect quality but it's good enough.

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

I am ok now.  I am Using DVD shrink, and making one VOB file.  I am using maybe 40% compression, but also the option to sharpen the picture in the settings.  It is working just fine right now...   This way, I only have to rename one file "VTS_01.VOB" to "BeerLeague.VOB" or .MPG and it's fine.   A 4Gb file, compressed to 2.5, and sharpened looks ok.  It takes less time this way, than to RIP with one PGM, then CONVERT with another.  I am just ripping and compressing at the same time, to one VOB file.

Re: DVD to AVI: Or other format..

DVD Decrypter is best I've come across but you'll need to select the files to include/exclude subtitles and so on which I'm sure you can manage lol. Can't remember what format it creates but I think it did have the option of .avi, might be wrong though as the default was .vob so I just chose that.

I know exactly what your saying, i hate it when people pronounce things completely wrong, and when you correct them they give you a funny look and continue to pronounce it wrong.

My girlfriends mam, pronounces TEXT (as in an sms message) TEX, so she would say, "I got a tex last night". Pisses me off so much, Ive told her its TEXT but she still continues to say TEX.

I notice this stuff from a lot of people, and to be honest its just ignorance and lazyness.

Is there a good answer for this.  I've been using DVD Decrypter then converting them with PS3 Video 9 but I want something to convert them to WMV because they're going on my Zune.  I don't want to convert VOB-->AVC-->WMV
