yeah im not a noob or anything but when i get to the bootloader final bit i type in root then my password then Xautoconfig but when i enter startX it says invalid command it shouldnt do that i watched loads of tuts and read up.

EDIT : sorry i've fixed this now and got it working just one more thing why is the screen black and white on linux and normal on game os and i enter the correct tv resolution 480i for my sdtv

It mite have something to do with your sdtv. i used a 100hz sdtv so i had no problems.

try changing the video modes or run ps3_video_test.sh script.

BTW are you from the uk(most SDTV are 50hz and dont support 480 mode in YDL).

i had that problem. so i just installed Ubuntu 7.10
the same os i have on my PC.
its way different from windows that usually use but i'm getting the hang of it. and likening it

Jawn..can u link me to a tutorial on how to install Ubuntu 7.10 on pc aswell as ps3. I m tryin to learn these stuff but i havnt found a gud link to download this

yeah i do live in uk with a 50hz TV cba installing another linux lol just have to wait till i get me HDTV ill use me pc for the time being

50Hz 6:576i(PAL)

Try this should work.

ps3videomode -v 6

With your PAL 50hz SDTV you should use video mode 6.

HDTV really makes a big difference in linux so waiting is a good idea.

yeah ive uninstalled linux and allocated all my space to my gameos so cant be bothered backing up, formatting and installing again ill just wait for me HDTV
