basically, there are NO ways to hack (like the psp) the ps3. am i right? but does that still mean that i can put some of the stuff on this website into an out-of-the-box ps3?
if so, what would you use to import the stuff into the ps3? a simple USB jump drive, or something like that?
forgive me, im a ps3 noob.
you are very right my friend, welcome to ps3-hacks:mrgreen:

so basically all we are waiting for is some one to crack the encryption on the firmware, get the appropriate key and we will beable to install CF

Basically all we are waiting for is nothing. The ps3 will never be hacked.

Ha! they said that about the ps2 as well

Ha. Find proof where this was said.

The PS2 didn't have better encryption than the Pentagon, though.

I can do good in this thread no matter how old:
- infectus is nothing. It doesn't undermine any of Sony's security.
- otheros.bld is a RISC binary in a GZIP. Look at the otheros.bld nouveau demos floating around. They don't need kboot or Linux.
- The firmware is protected by cryptographic check sums from within the "code vault"/Type I Hypervisor core on the PS3- in the CBE(refer to IBM articles on CBE|code vault|RNG| hashing)
- People don't even know the cipher used from the CBE. It could be AES or quantum cryptography for all we know- hence the almost full collapse of cracking efforts- even by the good RSX researchers. Almost all the crack team claims where fake too, so don't reference the supposed decryption claims.
Arakon hit the nail on the head. Cryptography protects the code, and the hypervisor protects the cryptography. The hypervisor is hard wired in the CBE die for the most part. You can only truly probe it once you understand the crypto- then you could black box it.

Well, some things i would like to clarify:
-Infectus will NOT downgrade any version that is newer than 2.10. New protection was implemented to prevent downgrade via flashing since this FW version.
-Infectus WILL let you dump your NAND and restore it, so you can always recover a brick in case you get one.
Appart of this, and research, there is nothing else you can do with infectus.
PS:I have infectus installed since long time.
