PS3 Mod way!!! I am not sure

Hello all...

I am Ash Crimson and I am new here.

Will we download games from PlayStation Store, and it boots from HDD, my thoughts are that PS3 games that downloaded from PS Store is the same IDEA of PSP custome, I know maybe it is a stupid topic but it may give you some information's.

Will what if we can take the Image game Like Tekken 5 DR from PS3 HDD and try to understand the way it boot using any programming langauge, I am not sure of what I am saying, but I am sure if we could just take the downloadable game from PS3 and make the blu-ray image just the same as the downloaded game, it will work 100%, I dont think that PS3 can be that clever to understand evey format that you insert, I think that the way to hack PS3 is on the Demos and full games downloaded from PS Store, so I think S**Y is going to destroy it self by let us download like this game.

Is it possible to take the Demo or Full games that we download from PS Store from HDD to Flash memory or HDD external? or could anyone of you just make a program that allow us to take the image, I think this way it going to be so easy to hack PS3.

I am not programmer at all smile I am studying Graphic Design wink

But when you think of PS3 mods, nothing comes to mind, so please if there is a great programmer like Dark Alex or another just help us.

blu-ray copys is impossible to work on PS3 because of the protection, but if we try that way of demos and full downloaded games it may work smile

I really want to see alot of replies of you guys and also you programmers.

WE ARE WAITING THE MOD OF PS3 TO COME FROM HERE PS3-HACKS

Thanks for reading smile

Take Care ALL

I didn't read all of this but you need to understand that the games are encrypted and must have a signature from Sony to work.

For you to do that you need to crack the siginure and apply it to the backup otherwise it will not boot.

I believe the encryption algorithm has been already found but as every encryption system, it has a key to encrypt and probably it was not found yet.
Once found, someone who is into the ps3 scene can code a decrypt function which uses the same encryption algorithm and the same encryption key.

But not it is not easy. Sony has probably created a very sophisticated encryption system with a very long key (or probably more than one key) tongue

Pirata Nervo is right. If how you described we could hack the ps3, we would have a hack ages ago.

Re: PS3 Mod way!!! I am not sure

After all was said and done, the claims by the crack teams where BS(This isn't a packed PE file, they couldn't handle it,) and the obscurity through proprietary chips and insane use of hashing where too much for low budget crackers.

To tell you the truth the type of people it'll take to crack the PS3 security from all angles will probably never even take interest. The hashing on the binaries will require a lot of cryptanalysis, which would most likely end up having to use a special tool to look at the chip dies on a function level like was done with passive RFID crypto- that requires great commercial insight to computer engineering. Frequency and side channel attacks probably won't work on this algorithm.

I still look around the memory map, but I admit I can't crack the hashing Sony used on it's ELF(?) files. My major hold back is the fact the units cost at least $300 US a piece, and I only make $40k US a year- I know it'll be a waste to invest in because the crypto.

The biggest thing worth noting on PS3 hacking or cracking is that memory corruption means nothing on top of this hypervisor. So all those buffer overflow ideas and claims where counter productive. I said this from the beginning, but the RSX researchers verified it many times.

Also the only extra info obtained since this all started is that the crypto functions are actually in the Cell chip die. This is what killed it for a lot of people. Also Sony is very unlikely to ever open the GPU. Someone needs to do a software 3D algorithm kernel setup for an SPE or whatever. Without OpenGL Linux on a PS3 is boring(demoscene needed.)

Can you say that again but in English. I understand most of it but some parts on unclear not that you dint type it well is just the terms used.

Basically what I said is it's going to take a lot of crypto work to get over just the apparent levels of security on the PS3.

The passive RFID systems used in car keys that where cracked where done so by professional highly funded researchers. They had great insight into how silicon chips where manufactured and engineered. They analyzed the actual functions of the chip with a special magnification tool.

Here the same is going to half to be done unless someones a mathematician and has some server farms. Even then you're not likely to crack the implemented crypto algorithm by conventional methods.

After the crypto only then can people get back to trying to tamper with the FLASH and gameOS, because it's all based on hashes and check sums. If the chip circuitry doesn't have hardwired hashing then a binary in gameOS does, and that will be encrypted by the chip hardware functions.

If you let a seasoned electronics engineer look through the scope at a silicon die he wouldn't know what does what. That should put things in some perspective, and that's what needs to be done.

Now couldn't you connect your PS3 hdd to your PC. and copy the downloaded games to your pc and install them on a Different HD ?.
if put online threw PC. People could share their downloaded and paid for games.

Possible ?

No. The HDD is encrypted and uses a proprietary File System.

Re: PS3 Mod way!!! I am not sure

Why do people waste there time on this anymore. This is the same exact question thats been asked in the past 2 weeks. I seen the same responses and pictures and still the guy isnt gonna understand it. If they are asking if its possible to do this or that then im pretty sure there not gonna understand it. But also saying no isnt good enough. They want an explanation then they question everything about it.

"Well why doesnt someone just make a program to hack the encryption?"
"Why dont we just download the games from our computer to ps3 to trick it into thinking its PSN game"
"My console frooze so i think i found an exploit"

All the questions have the same answer. No

Re: PS3 Mod way!!! I am not sure

All encryption supposedly takes a long time to crack with status quo hardware, but it's usually the key exchange or some non-cipher factors that breaks it.

Also the people at ps2dev are looking at the PS3 security as PowerPC mode levels like the PPC Mac systems had. They're basically focused on the modes in the PPE. Until you see people with a lot of time focus on "root key" and the secure boot mechanism, this is as good as it gets. I have nether the time nor resources to mess with PS3 stuff currently.

Most RSX researchers have went to SPE->GPU projects. The "root key" and secure boot details are still in obscurity. The secure boot IS the PS3 security.

So there are a lot of people working on hacking the PS3? Damn, I thought it was just a couple of sites like PS3HaX and such. Good to hear.

there are a lot of people working on hacking it but they will not share finds with each other (the whole wanting to be the first to crack it BS) and it slows down the possible progress.

Re: PS3 Mod way!!! I am not sure

I've only seen maybe four people really show progress on cracking the security. Unfortunately they where only interested in RSX support, and where really concerned about what Sony thought of there work. Basically in the end all they accomplished was primitive push buffer demos' and document the Linux calls. Now they're all working on doing software engines that dedicate an SPE.

Also these are the people I was talking about who think the PS3 security is based around the PowerPC processing modes. There claim that the PPE controls SPE switching coincides with what I was saying after reading the cell docs. Looking at there posts on ps2dev though you'd think they never read the literature; only Linux source, and old RISC docs.

That's because they're the SAME security systems...   As I stated in another post; proof that the information on both HD-DVD and BR-D are the same, only the format is different, and the hardware is passes through.

0m1kr0n; The reason people want access to the RSX through linux is for emulators, mainly PS1 and PS2 for playing backups.   From what I read, the proper PPC linux gives you access to all six SPEs. It's learning how to use all six, like the DEVs are; but, without hardware acceleration in GPU, then you have no real reason to try and make emulators, or other nice programs for Linux.  Makes you wonder why they even allow linux to be installed, when you are limited with graphics.  I mean, what are people REALLY doing with Linux on the PS3 that's orth writing home about?  Unless SOny plans on dropping a bomb to open something up later, there's no real use for it...
