Hi everyone, i just got my ps3 80gb mgs4 bundle today. I know i'm kinda late to the ps3 scene. I've been owning for a while n i actually did a lot of hacking to it. So the question is can you actually do any hacking, customizing to the ps3 at all? If not, what can you actually do to your ps3 other than playing games, changing theme, wallpaper, play BD movies, music and dvd and go online? Thanks

You cannot hack it, but there are some neat features that come bundled in.
1) Use media servers to stream music/videos/pictures from your computer to ps3.
2) Sign into your friends accounts (on psn) to download their content for free (share games, basically).
3) Use Blue-Tooth headsets for online play.
4) Video chat with friends (requires playstationeye).
and more, but im tired rite now so i ain gonna post anymore

You can also install linux which turns your ps3 into a pc.

sorry i forgot to put hacking the psp there lol.
well all the features that JoN listed there i already knew but i didn't want to list a whole bunch of stuff.
The thing about OS on ps3 i don't know. I read an article where you could run windows on your ps3 too. But why go through all the trouble doing that if you have a laptop or a computer?
I have something i want to ask. It's been bothering for a while now. It's between the 60gb and the 80gb version. I know that the 60gb plays 99.9% ps2 games cuz it has that emotion chip and the 80gb only plays about 80% or so cuz it run software emulation. But the thing is if you were going to play a game that is 100% compatible to both version. Will there be any different in playback at all?

if i remember right the only difference you will notice when playing a PS2 game on an 80gig over a 60 gig is that it might run a little bit slower due to the the 80gig not having the emotion chip but instead emulating.but from what ive herd (i dont own an 80 gig only a 60 gig) the slowdown rate isnt even that noticeable. other than that nothing will be different.

This is true, i knew it. cuz i actually playing god of war right now. and i think that's what i experienced. damn, so wit the 60gb it will run smooth without any lag or slow at all. i'm kinda disappointed now. Cuz the sony website where you check for backward compatibility said that if god of war runs on the 80gb you will experienced some static of sound during FMV playback. Well i kinda see that part but ps2 games do actually run a slower on the 80gb version. i don't own a 60gb so i don't know how much slower though. i don't even have the ps2. i'm gonna bring this game over to my friend house and test it on the ps2 and see if it's running the same when i play on the 80gb or slower.

U DONT HAVE A PS2? u poor deprived soul... lol jk... anyway i have a 60 gig and i havnt experienced any lag so u can prolly say the speed at which the ps2 plays it will be equivalent to the 60 gig

Ah here's nothing to be afraid of. Remember that not all games do that, and besides, it's time for PS3 games, and not PS2.
About the linux thing: I found it useful because a few weeks ago my Pc windows fracked up and I needed to use a computer for a research and $hit, luckily I had just installed linux on my PS3 a couple of days ago, therefore I was saved.

yeah the 60gb won't lag when you play ps2 games cuz it has the same chip as the ps2. hey since you have the 60gb and all. could you do me a favor? what game do you have? and do you know anybody who has the 80gb? if you do can you test out a game that is 100% compatible to the 60gb and the 80gb and try to play it on the 80gb and see if you see the difference. If that's ok with you.

Why are you still playing PS2 games. The PS2 games look and run best on the PS2 anyways. I think they look weird on PS3. Like the PS3 tries to make them look better. Play Need For Speed Most Wanted on your PS3 and you'll see what I mean. It just blurs everything. I remember how fun it was on PS2 but it sucks on PS3.

The reason why I'm playing ps2 games is because i think most ps3 games are not that good. Yes ps3 games looks way better then ps2 games but the ps2 still have a lot of good titles that the ps3 do not have yet. I'm just playin ps2 games right now as temporary. But i've been checking on games that will come out in the future for the ps3 and i like it a lot. Just to mention a few these are the title that i will buy when they come out are God of War 3, Street Fighter Alpha IV, Resident Evil 5. I'm really looking forward to those titles.
About Linux, can someone direct me to a link that shows you how to install it on the ps3?
