Re: I want to buy a new PS3 HDD

Walmart won't have 2.5" drives, but Best Buy, or Circuit City will, but not sure on the 320GB size.   Best Buy has had the 250Gb 2.5" SATA drives, I have seen those.    I just got a 320GB 3.5" Sata for 99.99 a few weeks ago for the PC.  They don't have as good as a selection as they used to, I have noticed.

Re: I want to buy a new PS3 HDD

The prices vary depending on what country you are in, but ordering from newegg.com if you are in USA or tigerdirect.ca if your in Canada will save you a lot of money. I have only seen 250gigs in 2.5 sata and they are around $200 in Canada (last i checked about a month ago). In a store your not going to find that much selection, and the brands worth trusting are going to be seriously overpriced.

Just a quick question lol

I'm thinking of buying a 2.5" sata for my PS3, does it matter what it spins at?

I got 7200 rpm for the new one and it working fine, but the original is 5400, and it was very easy to swap the HDD mrgreen

5400 is what the recommendation is, 7200 requires more power, and generates more heat.  However, with technology TODAY, and tests done; the heat increase was measured at about 3 degrees more, give or take.  There are the new "Green" drives.   There are SEVERAL threads about this already.   If you can use an External case (there is a mod/tutorial here for that), then you can use any 3.5" SATA in the external case.

I would not use a 10000 RPM drive, the new GAMER Hard Drives, they use twice the power, and I don't think they're in a 2.5" format yet.  If going external, then yeah...

does RPM determine read/write speed?

Re: I want to buy a new PS3 HDD

Me and a friend ordered two 320GB HDD for our PS3s.  They were only $100 bucks each at newegg.com after a mail in rebate.
