That's really weird. Were you on the Security Settings part of the System bar? And you need to hit L1 + R1 + SELECT + SQUARE at the same time.
Perhaps NTSC IDUs have different codes to PAL ones

How to you update the demo units?
We have no Sony rep and can't get new demos or firmware. We want to update our 1.02 to a new firmware for we can show out some different games, our customers can only play NBA07 and Motorstorm so many times.

download the latest version to a mem stick plug it to the PS3 and go to update in the Settings Menu!!!

just download the 1.80 debug unit firmware and try that one. The retail firmwares won't work on your demo console.

hmm .. ok
i havn´t got a demo ps3, but what i´ve had read before in this topic makes me interessting ...
1. we have to get off demo-mode, right?
2. we hae to look if sony made this mode at the normal ps3 in the markets in amerika.
3. then we ( I ) have to check if its work on an europe ps3 
4. when this is done ... what do we have then?! playable backups? playable isos? i don´t know
could somebody pls explain it to me? i dont have a concept how to program some tools or so thats because im asking.

Thanks for all the other people who really posted real stuff relating to this. Turns out my rep set up his own code, so we're screwed. Anyways, doesn't really matter. The updates to the demo system fixed pretty much anything I hoped of accomplishing anyways.

Because Demo Mode PS3s have PS3 game demos on their HDDs, and if we could put our PS3s into that mode, we might be able to backup PS3 games somehow?

Does anyone with one of these units know what the situation is with downloading patches. All I have so far is Warhawk, and I can't play the damn thing because it never prompts me to download a patch.
