Re: Gentoo Install Guide.

hey everyone, I'm in the process of trying out the different linux installs on the PS3, I had YDL before but I'm interested in trying out gentoo since I have read that it's the most compatible especially with emulators. I ran into a little bit of trouble which I cannot figure out. First I'd like to thank Siptang for making this guide because it has gotten me pretty far. I have also been using the guide at wikipedia because I have a wired connection. Well here is what I can't figure out that maybe some experienced linux users out there can help me with. I can't figure out how to mount my usb flash device, I've tried sde1 and a few other names. I'm not even sure how you find out what it's name is. Due to this I tried to use the wget as suggested on the wiki site to download the tarball, however it won't work either. Says there is something wrong with a name parameter. I can't even figure out if linux sees my connection or not. So as you can see I'm in quite a conundrum sad. I'm anxious just to use linux a bit having used windows and before that Dos, the command line actually reminds me of my childhood years while using Dos and the Dos shell. Well if anyone can help me out it'd be great. If someone can walk me through it on an IM that'd be spectacular in. I'm very new to linux and am slowly learning however there is no one I know that is experienced with it so I have no one else to ask. My AIM SN is Sephiroth1109 and I also have an msn one which I sometimes use, I believe it's Sephiroth1109@comcast.net. So if anyone could help me out I'd be eternally greatful. Thanks so much in advance.

Edit: The error I recieve when using the wget command from the wikipedia tutorial is "Temporary failure in name resolution" Now here is how my PS3 is hooked up to the internet. I have one cable coming from a downstairs router that plugs into a switch up in my room. Now from that switch the wire plugs into my PS3. My PS3 runs the internet smoothly but I can't figure out why either linux won't recognize it or something else is going wrong.

Re: Gentoo Install Guide.

Ok I think I may have figured out my problem. I installed YDL a while ago on my PS3 and have recently formatted the drive to get rid of it. I thought this would have gotten rid of the Kboot file but I read that the Kboot file from YDL might be interfering when I try to install Gentoo, hence my network problems. It told me that I have to delete the Kboot file from the hard drive but I'm not exactly sure how to do that. If anyone could tell me how to get rid of this problem it'd be great. Thanks in advance.
