Its not hard to do with 2 ps3s!!, the ps3 in the video also had NO H/D activity. And just to confirm the guy is now asking people for the $dk so why whould he need that!!!
Anyways RSX-mas to everybody ;-)

I was also asking the SDK to CJPC at irc but he told me it's full of watermarks. I'm working with some PSP programmers en homebrew lovers (maybe you know one off them, Undertaxxx from maxconsole forums?) and we all having a Dutch PSP and PS3 website. I wasn't asking for the whole SDK, just the documentation too see the PS3's structure and too help were's possible. We also have some good contact with $ony, as pre- and reviewers, but that's something that I won't discuss on a public forum. ![]()

Did you see a recent video of a PS3 switcher? its a switch that someone installed that fools the PS3 into thinking the PS2 disc is still in the system, and that way you are able to swap with a backup and run it. So the disc check I guess happens in the XMB, once you bypass the XMB it should be ok....well im a noob so lol.
Anyways, I do have one suggestion that someone might have already tried. Basically in older firmware versions, if you exit out of the @Home folding or even PS1/PS2 games, you can turn off your tv/monitor and the PS3 will not actually go into the XMB until the screen is back on. Thats right, it just gives you a blank screen! I am thinking that if you swap the disc during that time, the PS3 might not notice? try it with a PS2/PS1 game, from @Home folding or from playing another PS2/PS1 game.
With a PS2 game, heres what you want to try:
1. Put in legit PS2 game, and run it, during this time screen may flicker, does for me at least.
2. once game is running, quit it.
3. When you quit, you will notice screen will start to flicker again, during this time you want the monitor off.
4. if all goes well, the PS3 will not go into XMB mode, it will just be blank screen. How can you tell? try pressing PS button and see if it assigns itself to the PS3 and see if you can hear when you move around the XMB, if you can't then obviously its in the blank screen.
5. Eject original disc and swap with backup.
This will PROBABLY not work, but since I am now in 1.8 firmware, it has been FIXED. So I am thinking there might be a chance...and someone might already have tried it but I don't know.
If it works, I guess the PS3 will not have noticed the eject and will still think that same disc is in the PS3. But, if I am wrong. What will happen is when it gets back to XMB, its going to rescan everything, so it will find if the disc is a legit game or not.

I messaged him, no response yet.
Does anyone have the tutorial by any chance? has it not been posted here? or if someone does have it, can they share it please? lol I opened my PS3 today...hehe...and the sticker has void now
. I was putting it back on, and then void started appearing, im like WTF? it was all black on the back side..so I don't know how the hell it just started appearing void. But whatever, not too big of a deal I hope

majinvegeta, I thought I would post here instead of PM incase if other people needed the info too.
Here some pics I took when I used the swap magic method:
(be careful when removing the rubber that is used as grip when the PS3 is on the side. It is abit tight and can split easy, it is under the warrenty sticker)
Once the torx bolt is removed, the top cover slides across and lifts up.
Revealing this, remove screws where circled. (all of them)
The top section of the PS3 removes like this:
Tilt it until about 45 - 90 degrees and it then slides off.
Be careful if you have a memory card reader, unclip this before sliding the top section off:
The same goes for the Blu ray drive. Lift the drive up and there is another clip that you need to pull back in order for the drive to be completely disconnected from the PS3. Remove the blu ray drive casing.
Remove the screws on the blu ray drive as shown:
Lift the top section of the blu ray drive up and you are left with this:
Remove the screw that is 9'o clock to the laser, it is a phillips head and is silver at the side where the disc is inserted.
Lift the blu ray disc guideance plastic up and you are left with this:
Where the motor is situated (the silver rectangle thing in the pic) there is 2 screws holding this down on a small bracket. I removed these and snipped the wires to the motor. Took the motor to work and soldered 2 new wires on.
Put the motor back in place and fed my new wires under the circuit board that has 3 screws in. This circuit board does not come all the way up once the 3 screws are out but there is enought room to feed the wires underneth the board and out the side of the blu ray drive as the pic shows:
I then fed my wires to the front of the PS3, underneath the power on/eject circuit board and down the the opposite end under the card reader. I then fed them through one of the vent holes so I did not have to drill a hole or anything. Heres the pic for that:
Then re-assemble.
I have probably made is sound harder than it is but it really isnt that difficult at all.
If you want me to go into detail on where the wires go to the switch etc then no probs, just say. Anything I may of missed just ask.
A chap called ChokeD has also done this method and has bought the PS3 Intercooler to mount the switch. This looks real nice and neat:

Thanks a lot for posting this, however I do have some questions.
Since I am a real noob, and I don't have soldering equipment. Can I just cut a piece of the wires already connected to the motor, and then join them with 2 new longer wires that will connect to my switch? you know, just twist them together, I would think that should work. And then when I am connecting it to the switch, do I necessarily have to solder it? or again can I just twist it around the metal or whatever?
The other thing is, what about power? I checked another similar tutorial and the person used a power plug set on 3V or another where the person used 2 AA batteries, so how does that connect to the switch itself? and I guess the black is negative and red is positive?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, I hope you can answer all these questions. I am willing to do this, so far it does seem pretty easy, but I am still a little hesitant because again, I lack knowledge in this department
.

Twisting the wires is abit dodgy dude. Another thing as well is the wires coming off the motor are super thin so doubt you would be able to twist another wire on to it. The motor does come out, its just 2 screws on a bracket so if you could take it somewhere to be soldered that would be better. It wouldnt cost much, it took me less than 5 minutes at work and I havnt ever even picked up a soldering iron before.
As for the power, the motor requires 3v. Hence the 2 AAbatteries (1.5v each) or the variable plug adapter. I bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? … 0117478549 to house the batteries and the positive and negative wires from the PP3 Battery connectors went to the switch, just like the positive and negative from the plug adapter.
I havnt soldered wires to the switch. I intend on doing so but for the time being I just used clips that slide over the connectors of the switch.
Here is a pic of what wires go where on the switch. Thanks to tsrps3.
On that pic the wires are not connected to the motor, that pic is purely just showing how to set up the switch to the battery supply. The 2 wires missing connect to pins 1 & 4 on the switch. PIN 4 requires the red wire, obviously to the positive terminal on the motor and PIN 1 requires the black wire to the negative terminal on the motor.
Finally, there is a sensor on the blu ray drive that you will see once the metal cover is removed. This is near the entrance to where a disc is inserted. This needs to be disconnected. For some reason, people that have installed this mod have simply cut the wires to the sensor, I dont understand why though because if you follow the wires they go to a simple connection that unplugs... Therefore if you wish to go back to how it was, the sensor can be plugged back in.
Any more questions just ask.
Cheers

Thank you for the pic and response supragaz.
The other thing I forgot to ask is that this method does work on all firmwares correct? I have firmware 1.80. Oh and using this method, does it render the eject button useless? like is the eject button no longer functional?
Heres the parts I am going to get, let me know if they are alright
2 AA Battery Holder
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Produ … ct=2700408
Mini Toggle Switch
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Produ … ct=2750663
Soldering Iron
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Produ … ct=6412031
Are these ok? as for the wire, I have no clue which kind to get. A friend of mine who mods says that most or all modchips currently use 30 gauge wire. I don't know if for this mod a 30 gauge wire is what I want to get.
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/categ … amp;sort=1
so can you tell me which to get from that search.

The eject button is kinda useless except for when you do want to change a game. You need to press it once you have manually taken your disc out so the ps3 thinks there is no game in the drive at all then.
It has been confirmed working on 1.80, PAL & NTSC.
Cheers

ok here is the ORIGINAL maker of the switch http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/499497 there are all the steps. im moving back up to canada in a week and i plan on doing this and i will make a great tutorial with good pictures for our website. also im going to look and see if there is at all a way of doing this without opening up the ps3 witch would close this thread
but dont be counting on it cause by the pictures iv seen its guna be very hard to impossible.

Hi Mick, would like to see your tutorial when complete. I have already linked to the original creator and credited. I just wanted to make it more clearer for people wanting to do this as his pics are pretty pants. You say you want to make one with better pics, I was wondering if I have missed something out - a vital point or something or are my pics bad? Also for people wanting to keep original functionallity, this is the dogs danglys and looks real tidy:

Ok it will not work for me.
First of all, I am only using one switch, that goes to the battery and to the motor. For some reason I think its having difficulty inserting and ejecting. I select eject, and it tries but never comes out, it still remains inside
.
Now regarding that sensor wire. They are the black and red wires that go to the little circuit with the screw right? and it has a tiny yellow connector? accidentally the wires pulled off that one
so now I can't plug those back in, will this be an issue or is it OK?
So can someone please help out, I don't understand what I did wrong. The game wont eject, when I load the game, the PS3 does nothing with it, the blue light does not light up to say there is a disc in the drive, nor does the XMB try to load the disc.
Offline
Ok so the data cable was unplugged, I plugged that in and now I do get the blue led coming on. But, when I insert a disc, it still will not read it. It does show the little loading icon at the top right of the screen, but a disc never shows up under game. Ejecting is still a problem, the disc never seems to come out.

HD backups, SM, and a FFOnline HD exploit.elf
until a major manufacturer with the hardware to burn legit disks comes out with HDLoadPS3 you may never see it happen. Then again these guys might not even bother due to firmware blocking it out.
Offline
Well I did get the backups to work after putting everything back together. So far everything is working OK.
As for HDLoader, I don't understand how its so difficult. Someone tried it, and got the error message that the ps2 is unsupported. Ok, no shit, its a PS3! duh. Why not update it, change the code a little bit and have it work on a PS3? then at least we can play PS2 games off HDD via USB drive if we have to. That way no changes have to be made to the internal drive.

hi ppl, the switch trick is good idea. but a pack off batteries..... naahhh.
and if you have your ps3 in the living room you have to hide it.
why not connect the usb power to the eject motor with the switch.
i dout the motor doen't hold 5v. and if you are affraid of brack it, you can put a small resistor on it so it lows the power.
just my thinking :idea

Why do people work on ps2 backups when ps2 games will soon become obsolete. It would just be better to buy the game really cheap when sony stops making ps2 games.

Offline
bison,
because the number of ps2 games and their fun at play.
and the trick for ps2 backup can became the trick for ps3 backups.
PPL,
i was thinking... anyone that has the switch trick on, already tried a ps3 backup in the same way??
put a original ps3 (ex:motorstorm) and then swap it to the backup (ex:virtua tennis3) ?
in the present is difficult to have a blue-ray recorder, but we can try with dvd-r games.
