Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

you can bypass the FW upgrade for going onto the PSN store, and other online things.. but not for playing games.

PSN ID: RYVAL

Games List:
Dynasty Warriors 6, Cal of Duty 4, Lego star wars, Madden 08, Spiderman 3, Assassins Creed, F1, Resistance

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

- When you play "resistance - fall of man" and put on pause during the game
- then replace the blue ray by another game (wait few seconds)
- then "quit and save", the system will boot the other game avoiding the update firmware control.

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

You should only have to update if you play a game on-line, there is no way around this as far as I know. Even with the Proxy thing, the on-line play would fail since it would not actually be making it on-line.

If you are playing a game just to play, you should not have to update the firmware, unless they have made serious changes that would effect game play.

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

Powerslave - you're not quite right sad I have FW 1.51 and when I'm trying to play Scrolls of Oblivion it says that I have to upgrade to 1.54 before I can't play, even if my ps 3 isn't hoocked up to internet at all, never been and I newer played Scrolls before. It just wont let you do anything unless you upgrade. FoneFreak - thanks for idea, but still can't do anything without upgrade  - let me know if you'll figure something out please.

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

Guys it seems to be cut and mix at the minute, I posted the rfom exploit on another forum and one of the guys came back with this:

"I can confirm it works on my setup. I have a US NTSC PS3 firmware 1.10.

-I load USA RFOM.. (the US version of this game loads on firmware 1.10... start game then pause (in game).
-Hit eject and put in Motorstorm PAL version (which normally requires firmware 1.50 - I have been unable to load this game on this console before... was reluctant to update to 1.50)
-Press Save and quit... and my motorstorm loads!

Great find.. Thanks very much. I can stay at v1.10 for a while longer "

If that is true, then Sony is worried about an ISO loader coming out.  There should be no reason to HAVE to update the firmware to play a game, it ran fine before, so why now does it need later firmware now?   Even with Xbox 360, the only time you have to update is if you go on-line, or want to download content for a game.  You can get critical game patches and updates, and you can't play the game till you update that part, but NOT if there is a system update.  You can continue to play the game, you just can't sign in to live without taking the sys-update.

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

FoneFreak – that’s awesome!!! The whole thing is working perfectly – my fault didn’t read your post correctly. Instead of pressing “save and quit” in game menu I was pressing PS button and leaving game! So I can confirm that loophole in Fall of Man is working, at least on my setup: PAL PS 3 with FW 1.51. Couldn’t play Scrolls of Oblivion – requires 1.54 upgrade, but when done through Fall of Man works superb. THANKS!!!

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

i have a suggestion, can we change the title of this thread or come up with a different one and stick this? for example; "how to bypass game firm update as of 05/16/07".

then maybe we could all post hour info in order like this;

machine - firmware 1.31 NCTS
game used to swap - resistance
game booted - oblivion

what do you guys think? just an idea, this way we could all organize all of this info. also... can someone post if they were able to boot SPLINTER and FEAR either NCTS or PAL format? thanks.

I added it to the top sticky in the HACKS section.

Post your confirmed working testimonials and I will add them as well.

Re: Is there any way to skip FW upgrade ???

machine - firmware 1.50 NTSC(J)
game used to swap - resistance NTSC(J)
game booted - F.E.A.R - Requires 1.51 (PAL) & Splinter Cell DA - Requires 1.54(NTSC)

After playing FEAR and the game is saved, it will not load using the swap trick, the game does not detect the save data.

However, Splinter Cell saves and loads fine.

If people are struggling to get the method to work, I had to delete the R:FoM online update and it worked straight away.

sorry guys, I'm on 1.51, so that's why Oblivion works. Not 1.5 as I said earlier.
