when you enter ur IP address in the DNS server box, amke sure you enter ur External IP and Internal IP, I have my external as Primary and Internal as seconday. You can find ur external here: http://www.portforward.com/ and you should know ur internal already. Did you turnoff Firewall?

yup tried that ..
and yep my firewall is off
still same error ![]()

1st I want to thank blimpie for this tutorial, it worked great for me.I downloaded some demos and stuff then I went to play resistance online it said resistance needs an update to play online,so I let it update. Then it went online and I was playing everything was great until I turned off system. My ps3 was a 1.50 now it says its 1.51 so I guess thats what that update did.Anyway now when I try to connect it says system update required,I also noticed then when it checks connection theres more than the 2 that were there obtain ip address and internet connection they both still succeed but under that is playstation network upnp and nat type am I screwed now? Thanks again

Hello, thanks to Blimpie for a great tutorial. I have a bit of a problem on step 17. I did not know exactly what to enter on my PS3 manual settings so here is what I did with limited success:
PS3 IP Address = IPCONFIG IP ADDRESS
PS3 Subnet Mask= IPCONFIG Subnet Mask
PS3 Default Router= IPCONFIG Default Gateway
PS3 Primary DNS= IPCONFIG DNS Servers (the first one)
PS3 Secondary DNS= IPCONFIG DNS Servers (the second one)
MTU = Automatic
Proxy Server = Do Not Use
UPnP = Enable
Upon tresting the connection I get a Windows System Error on my PC regardiing a conflicting IP address, is this normal? Also it toook various tries until everything passed the Connection Test.
Did I get this right? Thanks in advance.
To respond my own question, I did. ![]()
I'm downloading demos from my PC, I hope this helps someone...anyone...everyone?

great tutorial Blimpie, I'm gonna try this now but i just need to know this. I'm in the UK, so do I put fuk01.ps3.update.playstation.net. instead of fus01.ps3.update.playstation.net. ?
This may be obvious to you lot, but I just wanna make sure.
edit - it's ok I found the answer.
ok need help.
I did all the steps right and managed to get past the last step and the connection test succeeded. This time I notice it does not tell me my ps3 needs updating.
I go to the "sign up for Playstation Network" icon in my PS3, instead of the usual message telling me to update, it says "please wait" then after a while says "A connection to the server cannot be established"
Have I done something wrong? or is something down on sony's end?

sorry for the double post but I still can't get this to work.
I do all the steps and it tests the connection and says it's successful, but does not let me access the psn, and I've also noticed that I can't load pages in my browser either (DNS error) unless I change the settings back again.
thanks again.

^^^
Not sure how to help you but make sure you are only adding your PC's external & internal IP into the PS3's connection DNS. Leave the PS3's IP and everything else alone, only change DNS. Sorry if I aint much help. ![]()

thanks anyway, I used Simple DNS instead and it worked first time.

^^^
Too bad SimpleDNS has a 15 day-trail.

there should be a crack for it, no? (edit - found a serial)
also when I try to play RFOM online it tells me an update is required. Will this actually update my ps3? If so to what version?
thanks again.
edit - ok so Simple DNS is not really that good, the serial I found didn't work, so I tried this method again after a reformat and reinstallation of windows (which I was going to do anyway) and got it to work. Thanks all.
also, this info may be useful for anyone else having problems >
After installing Windows SP2 it would not work, I thought it was windows firewall, so checked the settings and made posadis an exception so it would allow it and it still didn't work.
After disabling the firewall altogether it finally worked. Hope this helps someone.
