Desperately want a region unlocker, I have a JAP ps3 and I live in UK, can't play UK dvds or ps2 games on it.

well on the ps3, it seems all hardware can be manipulated with software, like the inability to use rsx under linux, so you never know...

Well if it something to do with the hardware and they make a region unlocker it would not hurt to do two different versions one for the USA/JAP ps3 and the other for the UK PS3.

region lock is usually set in bios.

That's why with DVD players you can hack it using just your remote.
Works almost the same way.

cant you chose which region to set your DVD burner to on nero? surely it can be just as easy to do with a ps3?

Just for the region lock though.
I think that's about it. I don't think PS3 BD-Rom is married to the console itself as I read from other places that they can replace it. SO they probably have double security on their bios. (mobo, bd-rom)

there's snes emu out for linux.
You can play snes emu on any distro. of linux. However Gentoo has the best compatibility.
YDL has issue with video at times... or was it sound? i think it's fixed with the new version though.

www.zophar.net has a ton of emulators, but im not sure which one will work on the PS3
