Ok her it goes. I was attempting to reserect a PS3 for a co worker. Symptoms were intermittant boot into system. The system would only work when the hard drive detected and spun up. Most of the time it would not. When it did come up I had it connected to the internet so it detected a system upgrade. I thought shure why not. The upgrade failed and the system crashed. I figured a new hard drive would solve the problem. I used my Vista lap top to format the new drive it would onlyformat NTFS but I figured the PS3 would re format when installed. I also performed the YLOD fix by replacing the heat transfer paste and fluxing and re flowing the mother board. On first boot after the operation the menu came up and I told it to format the drive. It ran a short period of time and seemed fine but when I re ran the firmware upgrade it froze again. Now it will only start and power cycle off green to red. I have never been able to hold the start button and get the 3 beeps jsut on to off. Now I feel that the firmware was eraced during the upgrade and not stored on the hard drive due to a incomplete format of the drive. Sorry for the long post but I'm at my wits end with this problem.
