Just got a PS3 - Need Help Connecting to Internet

Well, I finally broke out the piggy bank and bought a 120GB PS3. My PS2 was on the fritz so I basically had to. I have a problem though, I can't get online with the PS3. Some info:

-I have cable internet
-I have a wireless router
-I found my connection through the PS3 - 100% signal strength
-Followed all the steps it tells you to do.
-Get to the "Test Connection" screen and it is unable to find my IP address. It doesn't give me an error message, just "times-out."

Can someone please help me out?

Re: Just got a PS3 - Need Help Connecting to Internet

I have unplugged the router a few times, I guess trying to reset everything.  The internet connection is being used by a desktop computer, sometimes but rarely by a laptop and now I am trying to get the PS3 online.

I am using WEP protection.  I have typed in the correct code for it.  My connection was open when I first started but I changed it to WEP.  When it was open, i was still having the same problems.  I do not know what the "mac address filtering" is.  I have a Linksys Wireless G router.

It is very frusturating since the signal strength is 100% and router is the room closest to the PS3.

Anyone?  Is there a tech support number I can call and talk to someone from Playstation?  This is a very annoying problem.

Re: Just got a PS3 - Need Help Connecting to Internet

look at the  router settings
you may have mac address filtering on

Learn how to use the router
mac address filtering can be use let a mac address  you say use or not the router

maybe set the ps3 ip up as a static IP
and but in ip in the DMZ of the router

the DMZ mode  has ALL PORT open, on the IP you put in

Re: Just got a PS3 - Need Help Connecting to Internet

Still?  People having issues getting their PS3 on the net?   I just pugged mine in, and it was on...  I do not see how this happens time and time again.   The way the router is supposed to work, is, you cable into an open port, turn on your device; and it gets an IP address; walla.  I have never had problems like this, EVER...

Do not use DMZ, it just assigns ONE IP address as the zone, and that's for OUTSIDE requests to go to the target.  You never need this unless you are running an FTP server or WEB server, or any other kind of SERVER on that target machine, where all outside connections are to go to.

QFT, it's supposed to be simple... and it is.
