I live in the UK and have been offered a region 1 PS3.

Is there anyway to unlock the device so I can play UK games and blu rays?

Dude there is no way to unlock Bluray movies but 99% of games should work as games are region free part from a few titles.

BR-d regions are more wide spread than DVD Regions.

All games should play.

You can play JAP/USA and more BR-Ds, see the REGION info in the forums, like in the MAIN MENU area...

PS1, PS2 games are region locked, PS3 games ARE NOT. There are a few, you can search the net for that. I thought I read that GTA4 was region locked to its A, B or C region. BR-D only has three regions...

Thanks. Will check out the compatibility of the games.

If there were issues, or I wanted to mod the console, would it just be a case of swapping the drive, or would I have to change a PCB as well to make it Region B?

you cant mod the ps3 in any way to make it a different region. the problem with games was that some pal gams sd output was on 556(or what ever it is) instead of 480 so aslong as u have a hd tv there shouldn't be a problem

The optical drive is married to the console, that would not work either, and there are NO MODS at all, except cosmetic...
