yea i have a link with the specs and pinout of each laser i dont know if it will work though.http://www.loneoceans.com/labs/project405/index.htm and http://lasers.wikia.com/wiki/Violet_Laser check them out and try to figure out if it will work.the xbox laser has better specs.

Well maybe you have forgotten but Bluray is in HD. And all the ps3's games are on bluray discs. So ... yeah.

The HD laser wavelength is inadequate for a BR-D disc, you better read some specifics dude... The Xbox360 HD-DVD is finished, as in no more, out of production.

Mr.TurnSignal: HD-DVD is in HD as well, that is not the issue, it is the wavelength of the beam. Just saying, you just mentioned that BluRay is in HD, well, so is HD-DVD... Codec and Content are identical, only the disc format is different.

they both use a violet laser diode(ps3 and 360)

HD-DVD: B;ue-Violet laser (406nm) - track pitch of 0.40 micrometers
BLURAY: Blue-violet laser (405nm) - track pitch of 0.30 micrometers

The bluray (30GB) laser assembly construction is different, because the data is packed tighter on the disc -vs- the HDDVD which is only 15GB. The lens numerical aperture is 0.85, where the HD-DVD lens has a 0.65 aperture, MUCH different... This means the divots on the optical layer are smaller with BR-D.

The HD-DVD laser will not read the "divots" from a blue-ray disc, because they are smaller.

Now, the MULTI units, that will read DVD, HD-DVD, and BR-D will have a lens assembly that is FULLY adjustable by the firmware. They are made so the aperture can be changed, on purpose for the muilti-format disc reading.

Even if you could take a laser assembly, or sled, made just for HD-DVD devices (fixed apertures for CD, DVD and HD-DVD), they are probably not wired the same, meaning, the ribbon cable.

your right dude.i did a little more research and your right.i was just wondering because i had a hd dvd drive just laying in my attic and was wondering what kind of laser was in it then once i found out what kind it was i started wondering if it could be switched.well hey,this is what forums are for.thanks again dude.
