Which new PSP to get?

Okay, I've pretty much decided to start playing a lot more PSP again compared to what I have done recently (i.e. none at all for a long time). There's many great new games coming out that I want such as GT, PJ Monsters Deluxe, Colin McRae Dirt 2 (which I'm getting on PS3 and possibly 360 as well lol), Socom: FT3 and many more.

I've considered the PSP Go from the start as the bluetooth is really appealing to me, mainly due to headsets and the added bonus of using a PS3 controller (with limited function). However, I like to have a physical product when I buy something and I'm not a fan at all of the whole download-only media market idea. I'm the same with iTunes...happy to buy exclusive singles and bonuses but when it comes to an album which you can get for less on Amazon and have the physical thing it's a no-brainer for me. I'm a big fan of UMDs and honestly, if it had been bigger or in any way included a UMD drive I'd be getting one right away. I feel that they should have really planned to sell games on small Memory Sticks as a physical product, it would have been a nice touch! Another issue is the screen size, which is the same as my T-Mobile G1's roughly, and I feel it's just too small for serious gaming. Also, I dislike sliding screens as they tend to get loose around the hinge after a while. The high price too is an issue for me....mainly because I can't jusify it when paying for a full-price downloaded game. Memory Stick M2 is nice but buying an adapter for M2's to fit into the older PSPs isn't hard....there's one in my original one now. No battery replacement could be an issue too!

Now, on the other hand is the PSP-3000. It's bigger, has a much improved screen compared to my original PSP, is lighter, has UMDs etc. There's no bluetooth...yet I have the original headset anyway which I barely used at all. I notice that it has been hacked, not that I'm too interested in it as I only really used "back-ups" and only a couple before I stopped playing. It also has Skype which, if you have an Android phone and thought you'd use Skype on the go you'd see why Skype on the PSP really is great! And ofcourse, the price is much much lower!

I still have my original PSP, albeit it was my third one I think, but it works perfectly but for one dead pixel and the incredibly short battery life. It's got M33 on it so no PSN and to be honest I won't get back into PSP gaming with it. It would be nice to keep it around though, for use of homebrew and mainly because I don't like to sell my stuff (I get attached lol).

As you can see, I'm greatly in favour of the PSP-3000 right now, just want some comments really. A friend is also looking to replace his dilapidated original PSP and to be honest I think a PSP-3000 would suit him perfectly in the same way and for the same reasons.

Re: Which new PSP to get?

get a 3000. you got to many negatives for a GO just to get bluetooth. the 3000 also has a built in mic and it takes pro duo so you can get a photofast adapter and have 16-32GB for cheap

Yeah, with PSP Go, without the UMB means you are downloading everything...  I would stick with the PSP 3000.

Re: Which new PSP to get?

That's that then. Like I said, with the PSP-3000 offering everything I want even when I don't need it and the PSP Go offering something I can work around at a cost and penalty then it's an obvious choice lol.

I have original 1000 and it still does what mick says lol.
Tell you the truth, I didn't really like the slim (2000) because it felt too "flimsy" maybe 3000 is different... haven't had a chance to toy around with it.

You have videos of your wife eh?

I would go for an earlier 2000 model or even a 1000. They are both fully hacked so I would try and get one of those. Of course if they Go gets hacked early on I plan on getting one.

Same here. But I doubt SONY would allow the PSP to be hacked all over again.

Re: Which new PSP to get?

Well the 3000 has been hacked as well but honestly I don't really mind about having custom firmware loaded onto this new one as I never really used it other than for a quick few minutes on an emulator. As for the PSP Go getting hacked....I seriously doubt it. If it did though and it was a bit cheaper I'd think it were worth getting, though I'd still want it to play UMDs or even games pre-loaded onto memory sticks. And that screen is just far too small for me to consider for serious game playing.
