They didn't want to put in the time and money to write new hypervisor drivers for the slim (diff. hardware = diff. drivers). They may still have the option of supporting it later if demand warrants it.

No Linux for PS2 slim. Hypervisor is not just software with PS3 systems, it's in hardware as well. With PS3 slim, what you see is what you get...
