My ps3 crapped out on me and isn't turning on.
It's probably the psu, so I wanna test the leads with a multimeter and see if there's any voltage from the sockets.
From what I know:
[-12v rails are 23.5Amps = 282 watts]
[-5v rails are 0.6Amps = 3 watts] 40gig version
-2 sockets on the bottom are for 12v to the motherboard, but I'm not sure which is ground or power
-6 pins in front are related to 5v, first pin on left is ground and last pin on right is 5v, not sure what the 4 in between are.
It seems like the psu is stable with the 5v rails, but when I tried testing the 12v rails I got nothing; of course I'm not sure if I'm testing them correctly either. From the internals, the caps are fine and the fuse is still good, so planning to trace the lines to find the problem once I get a power pinout without frying myself or my meter. ![]()
I'll probably end up throwing it to the side, but I figured it'd be nice to have the info somewhere if anyone needs it someday since I couldn't find anything through google or using search in the forums.
If anyone could help me with the pins for the psu or lead me to another forum with it, thanks.

You don't need a pinout to TEST. Keep the black probe GROUNDED, and test the others. If you aren't getting any voltage from any of the test areas, then it's the PSU.
Be that as it may, why can't you people search YAHOO for the simplest of things?
I did a search on PS3 POWER SUPPLY PINPOUT and found stuff, here is a sample:

I would hate to deprive you of your very own satisfaction in SEARCHING for what you need, so I will let YOU continue...

Obviously went and checked benheck's stuff already when I mentioned the 2 pins being related to 12v and the 6 being related to 5v, thanks for confirming it with pictures from his ps3 laptop how-to - but hey, good job on being a troll. ![]()
At least I'm positive that I checked the 12v rails correctly, aside from your douche remarks. Just needed a simple answer, but you just gotta keep going on.
I'd rather have "satisfaction" in "searching" for answers psychically, with the desire to "deprive" myself of people like you, regardless.

Good job on using a search engine...
