Region free?

Ive been doing a little reading before I go out and buy any games for my ps3. I am glad I've read a little so far.. Now I have some questions and looking for some enlightenment.

I don't know where originally my ps3 came from, maybe singapore, but it is REG3, 576i resolution SD standard. It's the newest 80gb model sony has put on the market. I bought it here in Indonesia.

What I've read so far is that it's up to the game distributors or game makers; whether the region is -all- or region; what.

For example two games I've been hearing about: GTA4 is region locked and also F.E.A.R. Is this true?

Another question. Can I trust the manufactuers garauntee on the disc casing itself. If it says region -all- will it work with all ps3's?

Finally, I am living in Indonesia (give hell to those terrorist bomber cowards!!) and will be for the next 6 months. If for example I buy a game that is locked to region 3, will I be able to play the game on SDTV's or HDTV's in other parts of the world? Specificly I will go back to north america, however a chance I may end up in the UK or Europe.

Thanks in advance smile

By the way ps3 games are rediculous in price range here. In comparison to Indonesian wages, it would be like paying nearly $300 per game in north america (in some cases worse). Many Indonesians make 1 sixth of the price of a ps3 game. On the otherhand 360 game copies are cheap though, about $2.50cents american. Even cheaper if the terrorist threats kill their market again.

Here's my sPecs:

Dual PS3 combined with Xbox360, Wii and NDS. Makes for one bulky heavy unit to carry around in a backpack and my back suffers from "hunchbackedness." But it's the latest technology, can you blame me!!

Re: Region free?

I've had the same problem with my First Japanese 60gb PS3, For some reason F.E.A.R didn't work on a standard SDTV but once I upgraded to an LCD TV, all my games ran fine. I'm pretty sure PS3 games are region free since I have bought games from Japan, China and America and of course Australia which all work.

Only Blu-ray movies are region locked

Just remember that some PSN games will not work as well, Bought TekkenDR and it didn't work on SDTV but on HDTV.

Hope that helps you out
