So my 60GB PS3 just shit a brick with the good old YLOD. Now I'm already getting a new system, still upset that I no longer have backwards compatibility. Anyway, onto the reason for this thread. I thought since the other parts are intact and working I could maybe mod the BR-drive to work on my computer.
Right now I'm working on a laptop, so I'm thinking of making it an external drive, and I'm guessing since there's already external BR drives out there that the know-how to do this is too.
Has anyone tried this?
Is it possible?
What would I need to obtain to make it possible if it is?
Anything else that's salvage-able that I could incorporate to my laptop?

There was a person that said they had mapped out the ribbon connector to the BR-D, and they said it was an IDE device. I asked for proof, they ever replied, and were never heard from again...
So, in short, no you can't use it on a PC...
There is nothing salvageable, you may as well sell it on Ebay, or donate to someone...

How much would you sell the Blu-Ray laser For? I'm willing to buy if price is decent

If you plan to use it in another PS3, that won't work either, they are KEYED to the console. That is, unless you need the mechanics to fix your mechanically failed unit. Thus, you use your logic board on this drive.

I thought the actual Blu Ray laser works another System, I know the main board and parts dont work since they have a unique code that works for that particular console.
I dont want the drive, just the laser ![]()

I did point that out, but I guess there is a language barrier somewhere...
The lasers must also be the same, some are not.

My bad, I had a very long day yesterday so I guess I didn't read it properly. Its very hard to find decent Lasers on Ebay since most of them are chinese made and they tend to fail quickly. My mate and I have 6 broken 60gb PS3 that needs new lasers so to get an official part would be nice
