I just missed a PS3 for 71.00 on Ebay with a broken DVD drive, crap... I want one with a broken drive, just to stream content... 71.00 is a pittance compared to 149.99 for a rumored console...

Like a year ago people where selling the ROD x360s for like 50-75 on there. All the games sucked for it though, and the PS3 was many times faster.
$150 is about the going rate all the mouth breathers are selling the PS3 for at the local pawn shops.

All those dummies that SOLD their RROD consoles kicked themselves after the 3-year warranty was announced. Some also sold them after, and just didn't know or didn't care. I may be picking up an Elite cheap, a bad one, the bottom right ring blinks, but no error code on the screen...
PS3 is not many times faster, maybe TWICE as fast, if you go by the FLOPS... Still, with the overhead in SPE prepping, and no CPU cache, it doesn't perform better in real-time for games. If the PS3 was MANY times faster, the games for this console would be outstanding, and they're not. I played fracture for the PS3, and bought it for XB360, why? It plays better...
I don't know man, the PS3 is just not getting the job done.

I know it's not many times. FlexIO and XDR SRAM are the fastest though. The speed issue could be in firmware and/or API implementation from vendors. The X360 might have better vector instructions too. My guess it's in code.
It'd be cool to get an open platform with XDR2, FlexIO, and RISC architecture with maybe a newer Nvidia architecture, but open market solution don't exist with those technologies, and it'd cost millions in licensing and manufacturing agreements.

Wow, or external drive play. PSN games could be shared to it. A PS3 without a working disc drive is not the end of its world, i can't believe it went for so cheap. Im not even looking for another one and i would have bought that.
It's still a media center, just without the drive it becomes a "digital" media center.
Id be kicking myself too if i were you. but arent there media players out for around $100 that accept streaming and are already MKV+ compatible? I heard about some magnavox(?) player (like a "pop-corn player) that did this just a couple weeks ago. Like ones of these things maybe this one specifically accept the ones that are compatible with media center pc streams are a lot more expensive.
Too bad this has no disc drive but i might pick one of these up. sams club has it for $98

Yeah, that requires external storage.. Still, $80.00 for 640GB and sometimes 750GB from time to time...
Still, the broken PS3 for $71.00 plus $80.00 for a 320GB 2.5" HDD is just as good...

A "very well-informed mole" says that there won't be a PS3 Slim announcement next week at E3, and that the console won't be in stores until late summer or early fall. Why? "There are plenty of PS3 systems sitting on store shelves right now," writes Ars Technica, "and Sony is planning on sitting back and allowing the supply of those units to dry up over the summer."
I doubt it but it sounds possible.

that slim ps3 looks the same to me

I hope they have it in black. I've never liked light color consoles for some reason except for the Dreamcast. If it's the $150 dollar one I'll buy it either way. It'll be interesting seeing what gets cut and how they redesign the cell heat sync, or even the cell. Even if it's just got WLAN and the core components for $150 it'd be worth it.

The ONLY credibility this rumor ever had was the fact that sony had "FCC approval" for something. It was the PspGo!, it is the "download only" machine that this was mistaken for when this article was published a year ago.
