Re: Remote Play API Progress

Hello. It doesn't work on my MacBOOK (inetl) with OSX Tiger 10.4.11. It's only for OSX Leopard?

Sorry to hear that.  I have no idea, as I know nothing about Mac.  Maybe someone else out there knows or can verify.  I don't even know what version (leopard?) it was compiled under.  The source will be release soon anyway.

Re: Remote Play API Progress

Utorrent (only for Leopard) do it similarly. Run and next quit (icon appear on Dock and one second later disappear)

Re: Remote Play API Progress

I remember asking some where about this. I was thinking we could possibly trick the PS3 into thinking a computer was a PSP then we could hopefully hack the PS3 from there. But I'm not smart enough to know how to do any of that. Glad you got it working DashHacker

Yeah, it was compiled under Leopard.

You must have access to a PSP which can run "homebrew" software (a hacked PSP).

Re: Remote Play API Progress

This is great news!!!!! Finally got my PSP updated to the latest custom firmware and got everything working. I love this app. Great job dashhacker.

I've always wanted to have an app like this. Hopefully you can implement custom window size and probably full screen mode.

I have a question though, isn't PSN games supposed to work? I get disconnected when I try to play High Stakes Poker? It's a PSN game with remote play ability.

Whenever I launch the game the screen stays black. Just giving you a heads up.

Yup!  In the README you'll note that I mentioned this as a TODO.  I've noticed that different games use different codecs.  Possibly different cryptography too, but I'm not too sure about that.  When you launch a game, the PS3 will ask the PSP to reconnect the audio/video streams.  Zuma I have mostly working, but PixelJunk games seem to be using AT3 (atrac?) for audio, so more more needs to be done there...  Again, my top priority however is going to be a windows release for this week.  After that, there are many loose ends that need attention!

You will always need a PSP to initially export RP settings... if you don't own one, you can always borrow a friends provided it's set-up to run homebrew.  Hopefully, this project will send word to Sony that they really, really, really should consider opening this type of stuff up - there is no reason to keep it locked to PSP, except to sell more PSPs?*

So I won't update my TODO list, because there is still only one thing on it for this week, and that's release for Windows.  I may also release the source this week and let very skilled community rip it apart.  Thanks to everyone who's given this a try and provided constructive feedback, much appreciated!

I've built several statically linked linux binaries, but they wouldn't run on the various systems I tested.  There are too many variances with libstdc++ and gcc versions which result in ABI brain damage.  As I'm planning on releasing the source code soon, linux users can compile their own optimized binaries.  The Mac release was a proof-of-concept.

Today I've implemented double-sized window scaling and full-screen mode.  I'm now doing audio decoding using the libavcodec interface rather than using libfaad directly.  This was also done so that I could add atrac3 audio decoding for games like PixelJunk Monsters (and Eden?).  PopCap games like Zuma are doing some weird stuff in the video stream which I've added hacks for... played my first quick round of Zuma on my laptop tonight.  I have aspect ratio issues to sort out, maybe later this week.

Tomorrow I'll start the windows build.

Re: Remote Play API Progress

Many steps forward, one step back...

Thought an update was a little over-due.  First, I'm sure most of you want an update on the Windows release.  I set-up a VMware server which runs my old WinXP hard-drive through a USB adaptor.  Today I spent a long time setting up my development environment.  Then, during a build of libSDL the drive started making nasty clicking noises and VMware hung.  I can still boot XP, but there is massive file-system corruption and now I simply don't trust the drive.  frak.

So now I need to set-up another XP installation on another (working) drive, and start over.  Sounds worse than it really is.  I was hoping to beat my ETA for a windows release and surprise those who are eager for a BETA by posting a release tomorrow, but now Friday is looking more realistic.

It's not all bad news.  I'm happy to report that game launching is working.  Tested Zuma, PixelJunk Eden and Monsters, and several PSOne games... all working!  Also implemented full-screen mode and normal, medium, and large window scaling modes.  Below is an updated TODO list, bolded entries are new.

COMPLETE:
- PSP homebrew application written to extract Remote Play keys.
- Authentication reverse-engineered and implemented in API.
- Audio and video stream decryption implemented in API.
- Audio decoding (AAC using libfaad2) implemented in API.
- Video decoding (H.264 ES libavcodec) implemented in API.
- Event system implemented, keyboard support working.
- Design simple GUI to manage and launch configuration profiles.
- BETA release binary for Mac OSX
- Added support for M4V video and AT3 audio (for games).
- Added support for application/game launching.
- Added normal (480x272), medium (720x408), and large (960x544) window scaling
- Added full-screen support.
- Added UDP search protocol used to search for and wait on the PS3.

TODO:
- BETA release binary build for Windows.
- Add joystick support with a default SIXAXIS/DS3 button map.
- Add proper audio+video synchronization (added a quick hack for now).
- Add ability to set/manage buffering and bit-rate profiles.
- Add error messages to the player instead of just bailing silently.
- Implement power-on support.
- Clean-up and document API.
- Release source code.

Re: Remote Play API Progress

Thanks for the updates. Will you be including your newly added features in the Windows build on friday? Or will it be the same code as the current Mac release? Can't wait to try out some PSN games on my PC or Mac.

Keep up the good work.

Re: Remote Play API Progress

No new features will be available using Open Remote Play.  You will be able to do everything the PSP can, but nothing more except perhaps take screen-shots or record the video stream to disk.  You can play any PS3 game that is compatible with Remote Play.  There is a list of game that work somewhere, I can't find the link at the moment.  For example, all PSOne games work (disc-based, or downloaded).

Re: Remote Play API Progress

Incoming another useless firmware update.

They say: This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.
I say: Attempt to block remote play from other hardware, other then psp.

The timming is just too perfect.
I really won't be surprised if they do something stupid as change some parameters to disable external RP.

I hope i'm just being paranoic.

Re: Remote Play API Progress

Yea, I was thought the timing was a little too perfect.  However, Sony would need to update the PSP firmware at the same time to block ORP.  Which is futile anyway because the PSP is a hacked platform.  On top of that, Open Remote Play is (so far) not a security risk for them.  I *highly* doubt they will ever try to block it.

The 2.72 update is a security patch that closes the latest libtiff overflow that you may have seen plastered around the internet as an "exploit" - which it's not.  Being able to crash the PS3 this way only opens up the possibility of finding an exploit, the hard work hasn't been done, and now the door has been closed by Sony in record time.
