It's official - Uncharted 2 WILL have multiplayer, and Sony is giving away the beta codes exclusively to people who purchase InFamous.

I'd already preordered inFamous anyways - been looking forward to it for a while now, especially since they moved the release date up to May 26th - but this is certainly a welcome surprise!

ya and joystiq got hands on review. this game didnt even need MP IMO but adding it, is like getting free chocolate chips on an ice cream lol. i think the multiplayer is gonna be really good, it kind of sounds like cods and gears of war multiplayer combines, also the game play in the first one was like this so if they pull it of nicely i think it can be a great online game.

The first one was actually really good, my father bought it and played the hell out of it. So I tried it and liked it also. They story line was kinda whack, but the gameplay was superb.
My father will definitely by the second for him and I.

Is this going to include everyone or will the PAL territories get ripped out of the deal as we often do?! And I'm unsure about multiplayer in Uncharted...the thing that made it great was that it was just a fantastic single player story and was a refreshing change from multiplayer. It also showed that not every game needs multiplayer to survive.

it can survive without MP but i think this could be a hit online, just have to wait and see come september.

Yeah, it's not like you have to play it multiplayer/online
I was getting Infamous anyways, the beta is just a bonus.

Same here - I'm really shocked that they're including the beta codes with a game like inFamous, to be honest. I'd kind of expect them to give away the beta codes with some minor game to boost its sales - inFamous is ALREADY going to be a major hit; this might put it over the top in sales numbers. It really might end up being the top-selling game for the summer, at the very least (it's a given that it'll be #1 for May, certainly).

It kinda is a minor game when you consider the fact that an almost identical game, called Prototype, is out on PS3 and 360 at almost the exact same time. And, as far as I've been told, the only significant difference is that Prototype has more gore content. Microsoft did the same thing with Crackdown (the game that largely triggered inFamouw and Prototype) by providing the only game to have beta codes for Halo 3, and a lot of sad-acts out there just bought the game for the beta and didn't even touch Crackdown...which is a great game!
inFamous will be a great game and will be big....but Sony still need to try and boost it's sales over Prototype.

I wouldn't exactly say it's minor - I remember seeing stuff about this game going back to 2007. It's been in the works a long time, AND it's the first PS3 title from Sucker Punch, which got a good cult following going with the Sly Cooper series on the PS2.
Also, I don't think inFamous and Prototype are necessarily all that similar, although that does seem to be a popular argument - they're both sandbox games with superpowers, but that's about it. With the karma system adding replayability and all the side misisons and such, it seems like inFamous is more for the "completist" kind of player, while Prototype looks a LOT like The Incredible Hulk - fun for a short burst of mayhem, but not the kind of thing I'd want to play for more than a weekend.
But yes, I agree that Sony is probably going to try and boost inFamous' sales as much as they can - especially since it's getting so much good press from reviewers and stuff; maybe they think it can become their next "tentpole" franchise or something.

Their next blockbuster IP is more like it, never hear of tentpole but in the context ill assume it means the same.
It'd be great if it's a good as it press previews indicate, another new franchise to boast about would be good for sony, they've already had many and its strangely overlooked.
That i can think of:
Little Big Planet
Motor Storm
Uncharted
Warhawk (was there an original) the name exsisted but was it the same type/genre
Folklore
Hevenly Sword
Demon's Souls
BlazBlue(?)
Resistance (i missed this and it's in my sig LOL)
PSN titles:
Echo Chrome
Pain
Fat Princess
Calling all Cars
Flow
Flower
Not so well recieved
Haze (was haze exclusive?)
Lair

"Tentpole" is a term they use in the movie business - it refers to the main franchise movies that studios build their entire release strategies around... like "The Dark Knight" would have been Warner Bros.' main "tentpole" film for their summer 2008 season. I don't know if they use the same term in video games, but it seemed apt.
And it certainly seems like Sony is doing their best to position inFamous to become a franchise they can build around. For example, I saw that they've put together a massive "Destination Hub" for the game over at IGN, where they've got a bunch of video clips and wallpapers and what-not (it's at http://infamous.ign.com) - but when I checked it out, I noticed that they're supposedly putting out a "prequel" graphic novel to the game later this month as well. That's not the kind of thing you'd do for just any game, since normally all the "storyline" you need is in the game itself - but if you were building a FRANCHISE, that kind of backstory suddenly makes a lot more sense.
Offline
That made perfect sense, thanks for the clarification.
I think it will be the start of a franchise and I recently saw a inFAMOUS 80Gb PS3 bundle to be released in EU. They really want to push this game.

Offline
Really - a PS3 InFamous bundle? I hadn't heard about that... wonder if it'll make its way to the States?
I'm not surprised they're pushing it so hard, especially since it's getting solid reviews - it makes sense to piggy-back on that kind of momentum. IGN's review just came out yesterday - they gave it a 9.2, which puts it in about the same arena as Uncharted and MGS4, both of which got bundle deals as well.

Yeah, i got the demo from someone game sharing it with me. It's pretty fun, Think GTA plus Spider-man. They describe it as "the city is alive" and i wasn't sure what that really meant until i played the demo. The city is run down but there are tons of people in the city. When you walk on the ground there always a good number of people you can torture, cars driving and bad guys trying to kill you.

The inFamous demo is easy to get; you just need an "early download" code, which you can get for a $5 preorder at either Best Buy or GameCrazy. It's totally worth it; it's probably one of the best demos I've ever played on my PS3.

isint the point of a demo to try the game b4 u buy? i hate it that they now use them as a preorder bonus. ill just wait for the demo to hit the psn b4 i commit. unless u can get ur 5 dollars back
Offline
Oh yea they'll always try to get ya money, its what they do ![]()
Offline
Well, it's not like you'll have to wait too long - the demo hits the PSN on May 21st.

You absolutely CAN get your $5 back. Just say you changed your mind or in this case "the demo turned me off"
The $5 is a place holder towards the total purchase meaning it's added onto the final purchase, you put down $5 now you still owe $55 plus tax. If you change your mind you get that $5 returned.

By the way, if you don't have the inFamous demo yet... it's supposed to be in tonight's PSN update at about 6pm EST. Be warned, it's a large download - it'll take a while to get, but it's totally worth it!
