Nyko Intercooler

i have a nyko intercooler but the problem is i don't like it being on all the time. i want it to turn on and off with the playstation. does anyone know how to wire it to run off the ps3"s usb port? i know where all the power wires are for the fans and how i need to re-wire the intercooler, i just don't know how to wire it to use a usb port. and i also don't know if the usb will power the fans since they are 12v 12A and usb is only 5v. does anyone know how to do this? and if the intercooler has to have 12v is there a way to "amplify" the voltage without harming my ps3?

Re: Nyko Intercooler

dude give it more then a hour (like a day) b4 u bump a post. this site isint super active. u wont be able to get the 12v 12a outa a usb port as they're only 500mA. you can setup a relay tho on the 5volt line so when it comes on it trips the relay and the turns on the 12v

Because USB ports are only 5V, not 12V.

Also, yeah, because no one answers you within an hour, you ask again?  Did you read the site rules on DOUBLE POSTING, I suggest you do. -1 post count...

Re: Nyko Intercooler

yea i know but u could build a step up circuit but then it will require atleast 3 amps outa the 5v source to get 1 amp on the 12v side. but the simplest and easiest solution would be to hook a relay up to the usb port and the fan

Re: Nyko Intercooler

u dont need a full circuit with cmponents for it i dont think. u just need a relay. all it is is a switch where if you give it power (like the usb turning on when the ps3 turns on) it will flip a switch for a separate set of contacts (the power cord for your intercooler) i dont know how to search for one you need online as i just grab my relays from old electronics. perhaps Powerslave can point out a appropriate relay or give search criteria for one u need.

Re: Nyko Intercooler

thank you so much mick. i've been on the internet looking for the right relay and i think i know what i need but still not sure. Powerslave, when you read this i need to turn on and off a 12v 12A current with a 5v 500ma power supply (ps3 usb). once again thanks alot, if it wasn't for this forum i would still be clueless on how to do this.
