Is this an April fools joke? Who knows, but this is what was said:
Sony confirmed in the early hours Tuesday that it will be dropping its price by $30 for the Playstation 2 to $99.99. The price drop was previously leaked by an insider at retailer Kmart, who spotted a price change in his system and tipped off gaming blog Joystiq about the news.
Playstation 2 Under $100?
Price cuts are always welcome, but it's not quite what hardcore gamers were hoping to hear. Consumers and industry analysts have been calling for a price cut on Sony's flagship Playstation 3 system for months now: the PS3 is the most expensive games machine on the market by a hefty margin. But Sony put a stop to that speculation in a statement today, saying "We do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation."
So, is the nine-year-old PS2 a good deal at less than $100? Assuming you don't already have one, there's no question about it. Sure, it's no match for current-gen consoles like the Xbox 360 or PS3 (or even, more arguably, the Wii) but it has a software selection that's absolutely superb. If you're looking for a way to play great games on the cheap, and you're prepared to be a little behind the tech state-of-the-art, you can't do much better.

^^^ That's a good idea, lol. I don't really understand why someone would buy one nowadays. Isn't it 9 years old, I beleive it was realesed in 2000?

Yeah, the PS2 came out in 2000, but still sells strong, compared to XB1, which they discontinued in 07.
There were only a few million sold at the end of 2000, due to the problems they had. If it were not for those problems they had with supply and demand, it probably would have been done last year. If you remember, NO ONE could get a PS2 from retail shelf for 6+ months. They were shipping less (restricting it on purpose) due to the concerns with foreign powers jacking the shipments, to use the electronics for Missile Guidance systems.
Anyway, there are too many PS2s out there, for people not to be able to get one even for the next few years.

Very interesting, I don't recall then, I was young, I don't think I received my PS2 until 2003. I wonder when they will discontinue the PS2, probably not for a while consider they still have games made for it.

I remember the 1st revision of the PS2 had a chip in it that later revisions didn't have. Iraq had a computer hardware ban but were allowed to have game consoles. They somehow got a lot of PS2's that were originally going to be sent to the US. It was said 12-15 of these PS2 models could run an unmanned arial vehicle as well as other computer related functions. Man that was a long time ago.
