I was thinking about making backups of my ps3 games, and while there are no hacks that will let me, i thought that maybe one could implement a chip (plug in the flat cable) which records the data sent when a legit disc is put in, and then replies that data whenever the backup is in the drive.
So basically, all I'd need to do is put the legit disc in, then take it out and put it in a safe place.
Would it be possible?
I don't see why not.

That's called a MOD CHIP, and not possible yet.
1: No one knows what to look for, so what to send?
2: Each game has a different security key or sector, that means; ALL the oblivion games in the USA will have the same key. Then, all the JAP versions have the same, but DIFFERENT key, and so on. EAch region has a different key, but are all the same for that region.
3: Xbox 360 doesn't even do this, you still need the Security sector, PMI, DMI sectors, and video partition. You still, need the same file system as well, so the 360 is a Generically hacked system, with backups that still require specific needs. Not like XB1, where all you needed was a backup with the XDVDFS, with no security features what so ever.
4: No one even knows how to make the appropriate backups for this method, because of reason #1.
Don't hold your breath man, two and a half years of PS3, and nothing...

By copying all the data sent over the flat-cable, you should be able to store the security data, and send it again.
This would also require you to have the legal game to begin with.

Still how will you be able to determine what goes where when you get the data?
Does the system read the whole disk when it loads? Cos I'm thinking it loads just part of it, meaning you can't even get the whole disk with one load.

lolwutcat: ENCRYPTION is the other metal wall, reinforced with titanium, with a man standing in front of it with a phaser rifle... Like you really think the information you seek to "sniff" would be RIGHT THERE to sniff on the data bus, unencrypted? Wow.. You have not read ANYTHING on security for PS3, have you?

So the bluray drive encrypts the data before it gets through the console?

I am not going to cover this all over again, so have fun with your quest, you will fail.

Powerslave is the Admin\Ruler of a idea that doesn't work. Pretty useless.
