Customizing your PS3 controller (no triggers)

I'm new to the board and have a question:

Is there a way to modify the ps3 controller to eliminate the triggers?
I tend to play fighting games the most and Street Fighter IV is my primary choice.

I don't have a problem with my move sets unless they require a trigger (R2/L2) input, when that is required the button press registers about 90% of the time. I'd say about 5% of the time there is a delay from the time it takes for the button push to register but this is just my personal experience.

What I'd like to do is swap the guts from a PS3 controller into that if a PS2 controller, I've been more fond of the PS2's L2/R2 for fighting games for as long as I can remember. That fraction of a delay is more than enough to completely throw off my momentum. I'm hoping someone has at least attempted this task, as I've failed to find any significant hits on Google about the subject. At the very least it pointed me here.

In my opinion triggers are completely useless for fighting games which is also one of my main complaints about the 360's controller. I've already tried the SF3 fight pad and a 6 button is nice but the standard cross was replaced with a webbed pad (ugh!). This is just my preference in a controller and if anyone can help or has insight please let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Why not use a PS2 controller then? http://www.amazon.com/PS2-PS3-Controlle … B000NJBD90

Re: Customizing your PS3 controller (no triggers)

That's one route I considered and it's a nice alternative on my friend's PS3. However there are compatibility issues with more recent versions of the PS3. I'm also concerned about lag time in terms of response during the conversion. Even a fraction of a delay can be crucial in combos.  Thank you for the info.

Read the reviews, seems good to me. One guy even says "no lag".

Just take them both apart and see if they look like they could be swapped.
