Possible to authenticate to PSN from other devices?

First post!

I'm looking to access PSN from machines other than PS3s.  The purpose is to develop a way for PSN users to message their friends on PSN but without being on a PS2/3.

I can't source the authentication method anywhere.  I presume it relies on either the PS2/3 mac address and/or a hardware/software certificate/token built into the PS2/3.

Before I get out the sniffer and analysis tools, I thought I'd ask here if anyone know how the authentication works?

Ithink they prevent this for security and sever reasons. Not over loading the sever with just anybody able to get on.

Re: Possible to authenticate to PSN from other devices?

I'm aware that they try to prevent it.  I'd like to know how!  If a PS3 can access PSN, it shouldn't be too hard to make PSN think that my PC is a PS3 - unless it's some kind of dynamic certificate approach.

You cannot access it DIRECTLY like the PS3 does, and that is that...

If someone knows the authentication method that the PS3 uses, then it probably can be done!  But it seems no one does.  I'll get out the sniffer and analysis tool!

If he got the same reception from you that I did, I'm not surprised.  Shame, I would have shared what I learned.

Bye.

it's just that many have tried and many have failed.
so you can't really blame people for doubting.

Re: Possible to authenticate to PSN from other devices?

Powerslave can come on quite harsh I will agree but the fact is this type of shit has been tried many times before and end up only in failure. PS knows his stuff. The fact that you are the 10000 person to come up with this "original" idea makes most people talk smack the only difference is PS knows his shit!
